Text of Letter received: "....After heavy rain, customer phoned to say he had a leak. Attended the site the same day, found the leak, which was an upstand not properly sealed. Replaced the upstand and apologised to the customer. April 2006, he phoned me to say there was another slight leak in a different place. ..a small amount of water had entered the property. They phoned... late Saturday and I attended the site on ...Monday and located the leak on an upstand higher up on the roof. The leak had occurred due to heavy rain and very strong winds forcing the water back up the roof. Offered to renew upstand and paint over the very small stain on ceiling. Customer became very hostile and insisted that only a complete new roof would be acceptable. I told him I was prepared to carry out a repair. In May 2006 my sons received a call saying the customer could hear water dripping, they attended the site during heavy rain, customers were out but returned whilst my sons were there and were very hostile, refusing to let them hear the dripping. I returned phoned the customer who said he had done a water test with a hose pipe and that the roof still leaked and demanded a replacement roof. This was strange as he would not let me carry out a permanant repair. Carried out own hosepipe test on 16 June 2006. I flooded the roof lead and no water entered the property. The customers partner explained her partner had blocked up the outlet flooding the roof completely thereby creating an unnatural situation. I also did this and a small amount of water entered after 30 minutes in the spot where I had made the temporary repair. Again offered a permanant repair and paint ceiling. Customer refused, demanded replacement roof (remembering roof only leaked when forced by blocking outlet pipe). Relunctantly agred to replace roof, could not accomodate time frame, agreed work to be completed by another trader, I would foot bill within reason. Still willing to carry out repair..."
