I have found him to be very thorough, with excellent communication skills, giving clear descriptions of the work needing to be done. He has been very helpful to my tenant and kept us all informed as the work progressed. He left the work area very neat and tidy and the final cost was less than expected. Stephen likes to engineer a system the same way that I like to work. Get to understand a problem, approach it methodically, do it once and do it to a good standard and try and give value for money. He has the technical smarts to be able to deal with the out-of-the-ordinary and he is now our go to plumber for any work on our house. We have now used him twice.

I feel that I would not recommend this company. In my opinion his workmanship, quality and courtesy are poor and his billing inconsistent and unclear. It took several requests to obtain the servicing certificate which I received in January.

Response from Acquire Home Services:
I repaired many faults on this loft-installed boiler during the very cold weather at the end of 2010 even though the installation did not meet basic safety standards. The boiler had not been serviced since new in 2006 which is another disregard of gas safety standards. I also repaired the immersion heater and left both in good safe working order and gave safety advice. Reliability: I kept all appointments and worked unsociable hours in freezing weather. Tidiness: This was not mentioned while I was there but I was asked for a quick repair because of the cold weather. Courtesy: I did get upset when the payment cheque was returned unpaid. Quality of workmanship: I don’t understand 3. 10= safe repair; less than 10 means the gas inspector should be called. I suggested it but the customer did not. I am puzzled. When I received the first reminder to send the certificate which was via CheckaTrade, I emailed a copy by return.

In my opinion this rating neither reflects the quality of finish I achieved with this bathroom and the many hours of pains-taking work nor the ‘resurrection’ of the boiler thought to be beyond repair, all at a very reasonable price. The customer did not mention any of the issues marked down during the work so I had no opportunity to make adjustments at the time. I am dumbfounded.
