I started in the trade in the 1960's when things where a lot different with cars then.  I obtained the "City & Guilds" qualifications at kingston college. I have worked at a lot of different main dealers which has given me a very broad spectrum of training on different makes and models.  Then due to the turn towards computer controlled items on vehicles I decided to get into diagnostics.

I also do welding this would be mainly for the older cars as later models do not suffer quite so much. Vans and light commercials are also possible. Vehicle recovery and roadside assistance is also available and I endeavour to be available as quickly as is possible.

Replaced starter motor and replaced pads on Mercedes A Class

Jim is a very knowledgeable reliable person, Mercedes are not the easiest of cars to work on but this was no trouble for Jim. I would most definitely recommend him and use him again myself.

Replaced engine of BMW 1 Series

After the engine blew on my 1 Series, I had already received a quote of over £3000 to fit a new one so decided that I should get a second opinion. I was immediately reassured by Jim's honesty and understanding of the problem. Jim sourced an engine for me which was a good price, offered advice to me throughout the purchase of the engine, ensuring that we bought all of the correct parts etc. The whole job was completed extremely efficiently and I was back on the road plus made a great saving on the job compared to the other quotes which I got. Absolutely first class mechanic, he now does all my servicing as well!

Investigated and rectified problem with my car engine.

Very pleased with standard of work which was carried out quickly and efficiently to minimise the time that I was without my car. Staff very helpful, polite and reliable. Total cost of work was less than I expected. Invoice was clear and concise with no hidden extras. . Would certainly use Akar again and wouldn't hesitate to thoroughly recommend them to anyone else needing car recovery, repairs and servicing, particularly at short notice as I did!

Replace cam belt and water pump

Jim is a rare person, knowledgeable and not afraid to tackle difficult jobs, he does not just offer a basic service but has assisted to fix my grand voyager on numerous occasions with tricky problems.  Very happy each time have needed Jim and would recommend to anybody

Full service and MOT including welding.

Very efficient service definite value for money no hidden charges - will definitely recommend to all my friends and family. Had fault with our heating which was sorted out. Welding work very tidy and clean paint matched very well. All through work I was contacted with cost of parts/work required to complete job with full explanation as to need for parts to be replaced.
