This driveway was started in mid December and was programmed to take approximately two working weeks from start to finish, weather permitting. Due to inclement weather, the driveway was not sealed before the Christmas holidays. This customer was advised that we would be not working over Christmas and also that the Acrylic sealer that we use can only be applied in dry conditions with no risk of rain and with temperatures above freezing. Inclement weather will always affect our ability to carry out certain stages of any installation and although we make this perfectly clear to every customer, unfortunately delays can occur. Approachways prides itself on extremely high standards of workmanship, customer care and value for money as our existing feedback shows and in this instance we feel that we have done everything to provide this customer with a first class installation during the winter months.

Tim and Pete were cheerful and courteous, and efficient overall. The finished driveways look superb, and complement the house well. However, polythene sheeting placed in a manhole to prevent debris from entering the sewer during the work was not removed on completion, and the new manhole cover was not freed off. We ended up clearing this to release two weeks worth of sewage one Sunday evening.

Given that there appear to be a lot of 'cowboy' outfits out there offering this service, I can endorse that Approachways is certainly not one of them. From the outset Pete and his team could not do enough to ensure that we approved of each step they took and went out of their way to keep the site as clean and tidy as possible. They were extremely professional and clearly there was a wealth of experience amongst the team. When one part of the patio area was wrong they came back on site to rectify it. Given this was a job that entailed laying different patterns and colours on a variety of areas within a landscaped garden, I cannot praise their work enough and it is a testament to the care they took to minimise damage and disruption that the garden was quickly restored to its former glory.

The awful weather in August and early September caused delays in the installation of work. This resulted in all of us at Approachways having to work extremely hard when the weather improved to catch up on fitting schedules. All customers were regularly informed as to what was happening. We at Approachways always aim to provide exceptional service but as with all exterior works we are controlled by the weather.

We would not hesitate in recommending Approachways and their staff to anyone wanting new a patio or drive in imprinted concrete. In July 2011 we had our existing patio (old pavement style slabs on a concrete base) replaced and restyle with Royal Ashlar Slate imprinted concrete. The whole process worked very well and we cannot fault the friendly staff who were on time and efficient. Their quality control even picked up on a fault on one installed step, which was subsequently removed and replaced. We were so pleased with the patio work that we also had our two tarmac (laid on concrete) drives replaced with imprinted concrete in Basket weave Stone. Again the work was carried out with a professional attitude although frustratingly has yet to be finished by sealing. This is entirely due to the weather, not the installers, when it stops raining, they will put the final sealing coat down. The original quotes were compared to laying new riven stone slabs on the patio and new tarmac drives. These included the breaking up and removal of the existing concrete bases, creating new soakaways, installing new drains and grills for the drives. The quote for the patio was more expensive than laying new stone slabs but that did not include removal of the old concrete base and re-styling. The two drives were comparable to the complete relaying of the drives with tarmac, including the same removal and drain work. If it ever stops raining, photos will be uploaded.

Andy Given (Approachways) is our third Checkatrade Contractor to do work for us and we have to say that we are extremely pleased with the results of all his hard work. We first contacted Andy back in November 2010 and he came and gave us an estimate but suggested that the work should be delayed until the better weather returned. It was completed in two days, a wash down on the first day and spray re-sealed the following day, all in fine weather. The reason we paid extra was the difference in VAT which we were fully aware of. He has done an excellent job and we would definitely recommend him for his courtesy and quality workmanship.

I obtained 3 quotes for the work I required. By far and away Approachways was the most professional of the 3 companies in the way my enquiry was handled. Andy Given responded quickly to my request for quotation, visiting my property, offering suggestions and ideas and then confirmed everything in writing. Both Andy and the team of workman kept in regular contact, explaining what would happen next, and were polite and courteous throughout. During installation when a sag was encountered they quickly offering acceptable remedies. The work was completed to a high standard and to my satisfaction. The work did take longer than anticipated but this was due to the bad weather but worth the wait. A number of positive comments have been made by neighbours.

The front of my property is now completely transformed and looks impressive. The front slopped in two directions and my requirements were still taken into account. The only slight downside was the difficulties of fitting the work in with the weather. There was a day when the residue colour powder made everywhere dirty due to the windy conditions and a day longer before washing off. In my opinion the standard of work was disappointing and some areas had to be re-done/corrected. At the end we called a halt, leaving one small area still yellow, showing more resin than stones. Also a row of new kerb stones, which they installed, several were left stained and discoloured by surplus resin and stones.

This job consisted of three new areas of resin bonded stone. One of the areas did not meet our standards and was automatically relayed. The final part of this process is to apply a sealer to the finished surface to create a slightly wet look which will also remove any slight variations in the natural stone colour and any traces of resin shining between the stones. The clients refused to have the areas sealed stating that they preferred the stone to have a more natural appearance. It was explained to them that sealing was part of the installation process and this was clearly shown on our website. We have at every stage of this installation worked to achieve the best possible result for the client as we do with everyone and it is frustrating that the client will not have the areas sealed and thus the installation process finished to enable them to look their best.

The customer contracted us to clean and reseal his existing imprinted concrete driveway and patio. Our team spent the best part of one day power washing and cleaning it. On another day they then resealed the total area Unfortunately the customers irrigation system had dripped water for some years on a handful of areas on the driveway and patio resulting in Calcified water stains which were impossible to remove. This was explained to the customer in as many ways as we could but the customer refused to accept them. Our team returned to the site and resealed the areas four times as a gesture of good will in the knowledge that we had done everything that we could to remove the stains. Approachways offers first class service, which I believe that we did in this instance. I feel that we were not responsible for staining caused by the customers irrigation system and could have done no more to remove them. I also have photographs which give a good indication of how 99% of the installation looked after we had finished which I would be prepared to show any potential customer.

This installation was carried out by one of my fitting teams last summer with a representative of our supply company onsite who was in the area at the time and was prepared to 'muck in'. After completion some minor blemishes in the surface were noticed and it was agreed with the client that they would be removed and reinstated. This is not uncommon with an expanse of resin bonded stone. We had to wait a while to get a small enough amount of resin to affect the repairs. At about this time the weather broke. Air temperature and damp are critical factors when installing resin bonded stone; to the extent that we do not install in the winter months. The bad winter we have just experienced massively impacted on our ability to complete the finishing of this job and others and the client was regularly informed of this. We have now finished the repairs to the satisfaction of the client. I am however disappointed with the customer feedback as we always strive as a company to achieve the best possible standards of service and workmanship as our other customer feedback clearly shows.
