Chris and his team undertook a huge project which saw an almost total refurb of our large house. All of the team were very polite and helpful and the work was completed to a good standard. Chris was particularly good at coming up with solutions for problems as they arose and very creative in offering us opportunities to change the plan for the better as we went along.

Splce in a new piece of guttering at the back of the house, adjacent to the kitchen, and fix a loose connection. Cut out work top for new left-hand drainer sink and fit new tap. Build replacement low walls to both sides of house, at edge of paths. Lay new treated gravel boards to beds of the front garden. All this work was done at the home of a Methodist vicar and her husband in Patcham, Brighton.

I first contacted Chris about this work in August, 2011, and he gave me an estimate by e-mail at that time. Subject to the approval of my Methodist Circuit Treasurer, Chris was given the go ahead in October of that same year. In November we received a request for some money 'up front' to purchase the material for the job. We made an advance to him of half of the estimate which was £250 approximately. The work was completed in April 2012. Some of the delays were to bad weather, but not all. The quality of the work was not great. He was very polite all the time, though.

“It is my standard practice to ask for the material costs upfront and this is clearly stated in the quote. I often bear the costs myself and then claim them back from the customer. I did my best to return when gaps in my schedule allowed. I did seven separate tasks for the client and there was only one issue. This was with some gravel boards that were laid between the fence posts to retain the soil. Unfortunately the gap between the posts was longer than the standard length so they had to be laid overlapping. They do retain the soil but are a little unsightly, to do a better solution would have meant rebuilding the fence. I did the job that was asked of me and no comments about quality of work were made at the time.”

“I returned to site without prompting to fix the issues before I was aware of any negative feedback. I provided some innovative and successful solutions to difficult problems that previous contractors had been unable to solve. I pointed out to the client that the door was not satisfactory on my own initiative and repainted it at no extra cost. I then let go the employee who did the unsatisfactory work. The client was happy with the door, taps and all of the work undertaken when I left. The site was left tidy apart from a drill box and a dust sheet which was accidentally left for a few days. I always visited when I said I would although a return visit to fix the problems immediately was not possible due to ongoing commitments. The original brief was to replace the tap washers; this was done within the original time quoted despite a very difficult plumbing system that made isolating the taps problematic. Changing the washers did not fix the problem (the tap seat’s were not cracked). An eventual solution was found by changing the tap bodies themselves. This took 4 hours longer than quoted and was done at no extra charge.”

Chris has done a considerable amount of work for us over the past three months. He has put up a fire, pictures, blinds, created wardrobes from scratch, done our decking and his decorator has done painting for us throughout the house to a very high standard. He did various plumbing jobs and also shaved the bottom of some doors that would not close because of a new carpet. Chris provided us with a quote promptly upon request and once selected for the work was flexible in terms of dates to suit our requirements. Throughout the job he consulted us on all decisions to ensure the work was carried out in line with our needs and additionally included a few "added extras" at no additional cost - for example shortening an additional electric socket and mending a shelf in one of our cupboards. I would certainly use Chris again for either a small or large job and would not hesitate to recommend him.

I was very pleased with the repairs Chris made to the floors in the upstairs of my house. They had been left in a real mess after some emergency plumbing and were not easy to fix. The job came to a little more than anticipated mainly due to additional materials, but Chris kept me well informed throughout. I highly recommend him.

So considerate and helpful, and having been told by the people from whose company I purchased machine from, that the pipework was old, and they were concerned that damage could be done, and that I should have complete pipework replaced. In actual fact, although the machine I was replacing was pretty old, the pipework was only replaced about 18 months ago, and that was pretty obvious on looking at it. Mr Chris Gardiner, so that immediately, and completed the installation in a matter of minutes,

The standard of work was good or extremely good and the builder was very willing to do any additional work requested within the given time. He was flexible and willing to discuss the work and advise alternatives. He was very reasonably priced and kept within budget Although some dates and times were changed I was always informed in advance and there were very good reasons for any changes.

Really pleased. Love the brick finish of the new path and the pea shingle looks great too. Chris suggested we leave in a large shrub next to the house which was a sound recommendation as it covers the old gas meter box by the front door (which we had not considered).Our next-door neighbours liked it so much that they had exactly the same work done the following week! Chris also decorated our spare room a few weeks beforehand and did a great job there too. I was impressed with his attention to detail, especially with the cutting in. He takes a lot of pride in his work and comes highly recommended!
