British Standards Kitemark what does it mean
Most households have no idea of the type of locks that are fitted to any of their doors or windows, yet believe that the existing locks would meet home insurance requirements. These households could find themselves out of pocket if their home is burgled and they try to make a claim on their insurance. If the insurer believes that the locks are not what have been requested on their insurance policy, it might lead to a claim on your policy being refused. Many homeowners surf through price comparison websites with the sole intention of acquiring home insurance as cheaply as possible but do not pay enough attention to questions such as do the locks meet British Standards BS. For a mortise lock, or CHUBBtype lock, this means conforming to BS3621 keyoperated on both sides of the door. For a cylinder or YALEtype lock this means conforming to BS8621 keyoperated from outside. British Standard locks can be identified by the kitemarkHeart shaped symbol of the British Standard
