John took on a bit of a challenge in building my unique cattery an aerial walkway from the house to the run. He arrived within 24 hours to do my quote. He took the time to sit with me and find out what I really wanted and explained what he could do, given the space and the challenges. The finished product is stunning and came in at under his original quote, which I find a key indicator of his honesty. He made several recommendations, based on his own research and even fixed another problem in the house while he was there! He was neat and tidy and 100% reliable. I would not hesitate to recommend John for other work.

If you need someone to do a bit of everything John is very handy. For me he did some electrical work, carpentry, plumbing and decorating inside, and some paving work outside. It is useful to have a man who can do it all, for those small jobs when it isn't worth getting in an electrician, carpenter, plumber, decorator, etc. Separately. John is probably just as good as most of them would be anyway.

I found trader to be discourteous and unhelpful, twice ignoring me when I offered to help him with carrying things. He later argued with me about where I wanted a bathroom shelf to be placed. I told trader that I would not employ him again, in my opinion he carried out very little work in the time he spent here and he took it upon himself to leave three hours early.

I feel the client has painted a very unclear and unfair image of events - I could give a detailed response, but I will just state this one fact - I charge by the hour and she paid for the work I did, for the time I was there and materials - at rates I had clarified in advance verbally and via email - so how, I wonder, how can the client say that “I left early".

He cleared up and didn't leave any mess. He did a very job boxing in the cistern and laying the floor and I would not hesitate to recommend him. Not only did he do an excellent job first time coming in we under estimate but when I had a major problem (due to the original company that did the drainage), John came to the rescue quickly despite his busy schedule and did a further more complicated repositioning as efficiently as he had done the original. Response from John The Handyman:
The work, (including other jobs that were not agreed in advance on the original quote) had been completed for this customer and paid for at intervals throughout the project, which was to complete a snagging list left by one or more previous traders the customer had employed. As the customer paid, I was led to believe that they were happy with my work, especially as some of the payment was for work that had not been undertaken at that point. I was only advised of the opposite when the customer emailed me and said that he had stopped payment and was getting someone else in to finish the work that I had planned to do. I am very shocked by this and despite trying to reach an amicable agreement with the customer the relationship broke down. I feel that by using the Checkatrade complaints procedure this customer has placed comments regarding my work, which I am sure my customers can see is out of character given all other feedback shown.
