Profile at a glance :
Started bricklaying apprenticeship with a local, established builder (H J Palmer, based in Broadstone) in 1980.This included a four year block release construction course at Poole Technical College. In 1989 I became self-employed and a few years later started my own business in Bournemouth before moving to the West country in 1995.
Worked and lived in Bristol and Bath until 2008, where I built up an extensive knowledge of Victorian construction methods (usage of old building materials, type of tools used etc) combined with the common causes of building failures associated with this type of period property.
The type of building work carried out during this time-frame consisted of part remedial work on both private and old commercial property, part re-duplication of Victorian/ Edwardian building finishes (authentic brickwork/pointing, flagstones etc) and my fair share of ordinary modern building work (conservatory bases, patios etc). All these types of jobs involved using either natural stone or brick as the main material source.
Since 2008 to present day, I have been located in Christchurch, where the majority of working time has been spent repairing/re-building arches, forming new window and door openings and property maintenance (replacement of spalling bricks).
Type of work undertaken :
- masonry remedial works

Specialising in :
