Marcus and Keith were the only company who came up with the idea of staged applications to ensure we did not waste money by applying for full works at the beginning of the project when we were still unsure of the extent of our extension project. All work was done when they promised and all of the contractors who bid to win the work were very impressed with the detail of specifications on the drawings. Both Marcus and Keith were very easy to deal with and talk to and patient with my lack of knowledge on my first time doing this sort of project. Highly recommend both.

They did a competent job with the plan however disappointed by 2 things. 1. They required us to pay more than quoted to cover the fees of a design company. They never warned us of this at the outset and I would have thought this work that they out source fell within their remit. In any event we should have been advised at the start as there were significant delays. Due to their being slow to send papers to the council. I do want to stress though that I had no problems with the quality of work.

Response from MB Design Services:
I am disappointed with the scores and comment made by this customer. The additional payment which they refer to was a fee payable to another company for heat loss calculations which were required by the council. The requirement for these calculations were discussed at the first meeting with the customer and was also clearly stated in our quotation letter. With regard to the length of time taken to send papers into the council, I accept that we did take a little longer to send in some additional information that the planning department requested which did slow down the planning process, however once the planning was approved we prioritised the building regulation drawings to make up the time lost, so that the overall time taken for the whole process of planning and building regulation approval was pretty much on time, the only delay then taken on gaining the building regulation approval was due to the customer objecting to the cost of the heat loss calculations which, as previously stated, was made clear to him from the start.

In my opinion trader did not do their job properly. The drawings which they sent to the council should be the same as they gave me. When he started the work we found out we were working with different set of drawings from the ones from the council, which created lots of problems for us and we ended up paying a different architect for helping us with the council.

Customer in my opinion expected to be able to extend his house far more than the local authority would allow, and was upset with us when we tried to advise him that there are limits as to what would be acceptable. With respect to the comments he made, we did not give the customer any drawings that we did not also send into the council, and having talked to the local authority building inspector, he has confirmed that there was no other architect involved on the job.
