long 10 month job, handled professionally and attentively. Considerate to our needs when job at most intrusive. John is a real jack of all trades, but sensibly gets the specialists in for specifics. Happy the team have now gone, but happy with what they've left us with! 9/10 well done. Would recommend.

On paying in full on 1 June 2007, there were still a few jobs to be completed, which in good faith said you would do, but during the time of waiting the wooden floors were giving cause for concern and the jobs were never completed. The floorboards which were removed from hall and never replaced are still in the front garden where New Shine left them, skirting boards are still loose where New Shine removed them and radiators covers and paintwork has been damaged in the open plan area. The floor in master bedroom is moving and consequently is effecting the shower room floor to move and buckle. The door into the bedroom sticks due to the floor moving as in the entrance to the open plan area. Skirting was removed from bottom of shower and never replaced and bottom of shower is leaking. Paintwork has been damaged where skirting has been removed also where framework was removed behind toilet, bidet and wash-basin. Plug for bidet has still not been supplied. Cracks have appeared by side of window at top of cupboard in master bedroom. In the second bedroom where there had been a leak - this has never been repaired. The skirting is moving by the window due to movement of wooden floor. The floor movement is also causing the floor in the bathroom to buckle, screws were removed from bath panel (this was when New Shine thought there might be a leak), these have never been replaced. Patio doors still do not close correctly and inside framework has still to be filled. The brickwork outside these patio doors has broken away and cracking due to not being layed correctly. Back garage door internal frame has not been finished and brickwork is still missing above door on the outside.

Response from New Shine Building:
This whole matter had started from the oak flooring which was fitted when I refurbished the house. Before fitting the floor, I did a moisture test on the floor, the wood and also a humidity test on the house, all of which were within the manufactures recommendations. After about 2 months of completion, the floor started to swell and buckle. I went out and released the flooring around the edges. I lifted a section at the bay window/patio doors and under this section I found a puddle of water. The customer was present and witnessed the puddle. I asked the customer to keep the doors closed so that no rain would get in and put the heating on to dry out the flooring before replacing the damaged parts. About a week later I received a phone call from the customer informing that the same thing had happened in the hall and that some of the doors would not close due to the floor. I went out and did the same thing to the hall as I did to the sitting room area and trimmed all the doors so they would open and close properly. A week later I had another call saying that the bathroom door would not open properly and that the floor had moved again. I thought the problem might be a leak in the plumbing, so I searched every place there was water pipes but found nothing. I advised the customer I would employ a firm to come out and test the floor and flooring to investigate why this was happening. When the person arrived the customer insisted that they would pay for the test and the report to be sent to them. I was advised that the humidity in the house was very high and that in his opinion was the reason for the flooring problem. I have since had rude calls from the customer threatening court action, saying I had better fix the problem and that there was no puddle under the floor. I do not feel responsible for this floor problem but I advised the customer that I would lay another floor such as tile or carpet at their expense.

They listened well and did their best to accomodate us - including several later 'additions' to the original plan. They were honest, good natured and courteous throughout. I would recommend them.
