Fixed and serviced BMW
Pete was excellent he changed auto transmission fluid, installed new cat and serviced all over. The car has never been better, its hard to find a genuine car mechanic that won't rip you off so I will be using P&J Hooker to service all my cars from now on!

Replace front discs and pads and service.
P and J Hooker were extremely good. Very friendly and talked me through what they were going to be doing. As a woman car owner, I found that they didn't talk down to me and explained everything. I would recommend them.

Replace cam belt 86,000 mile.
Pete was great, did a brilliant job replacing cam belt. He even came in at under quote. the only negative was time keeping, but that has not put me off from using him again for future work on my car. I would recommend them.

Welding to be finished off at back of vehicle.
Owed money for purchase of cylinder for welding. Reluctant to give a receipt. Charged for work that was not done. 31/7, Further Letter received: "I write to advise you of some inconsistencies with the traders reply, he did not arrive until 1.30pm, as he forgot to bring his welder and had to go back for it, he was there until 9pm because he made a mistake with the bumper and drilled in the wrong place causing him to take off the bumper and re-do it. He did not tighten the wheel bearing nor did he repair the oil pressure switch, he spent longer on the vehicle because he was constantly answering his phone when it rang. I never said not to worry about the £5.51 difference for the canister and I don't know anything about 70p. Rust was not extensive on the land rover and despite its age it has always been regularly serviced and maintained. When asked for a receipt for cash he said he didn't always give a receipt for cash and was reluctant to do so. The sump gasket he put on is leaking and seven bolts were loose and had to be tightened up by someone else. He had two lads with him, one of whom was his 15 year old son who he allowed to do some welding, I am not sure health and safety would have been happy with him doing that at his age."

I serviced this vehicle on 12/4 with no problem. I attended this vehicle on 7/6 after customer had an accident and loosed his bumper. On inspection I realised that only rust was holding the bumper on, I didnt leave the vehicle until 9pm after arriving at noon. I stayed to ensure his front bumper was secured safely. On 15/6 I returned to the vehicle in order to finish off the welding required to make the vehicle road worthy and safe, tightened offside wheel bearing, changed brake fluid, repaired oil pressure switch, tightened pinch bolt on lower steering arm as well as some of the welding, charged labour for 4 hours despite spending 7.5 hours working on this vehicle. Customer offered to collect the C02 canister which was paid for partly by a return he was willing to make for me, I was told not to worry about the £5.51 difference. I had given the customer a rough quote for the work which I stuck to despite the extra hours work he wanted, in fact customer complained it was 70p over. Rust was extensive on the vehicle as it was 26 years old, I told customer I would drop the invoice round to him at which point I was bombarded with abuse and insults. I had his vehicle booked in to finish off the welding the following saturday 23/6, but he decided he did not want me to attend. Receipts given for all works carried out.

Fit heating matrix plus windscreen washer bottle pump.
Car was booked in for one day's work at home. On arriving home, the car was gone, taken away to be fixed. I phoned the mechanic at the end of the day to see if the work was done, he said he would phone when it was. This was Thursday, on Monday I phoned to see what was happening, only to be told that it had been taken to another garage as he couldn't do it. After taking the car away from the garage with the work still not done, I had to take it to a reputable garage in Bognor who completed the work in two hours. They also gave me a list of bits missing.

This customer has had at least three previous jobs done by us and had been totally happy with them, please see previous Checkatrade reports. I had in fact on three occassions postponed other jobs in order to help him and keep him on the road as I know he is self employed and uses his car for business. I am sorry that he feels the need on this occassion to be so harsh in his comments. I had given this particular job to another garage as it was a two man job and I work on my own. I explained this to our customer at the time as, despite me warning him the job may take longer than expected, he was frequently calling me to check on progress. The garage concerned did not do the work in the time they said they would do so in my mind it was the garage that let both the customer and me down.
