SUMMARY

Checkatrade, the web-based information and directory service that helps reputable tradespersons to stand out from the rogues, has agreed radio sponsorships with Southern region stations, Power FM and 2CR FM.

PRESS RELEASE

Checkatrade, the web-based information and directory service that helps reputable tradespersons to stand out from the rogues, has agreed radio sponsorships with Southern region stations Power FM and 2CR FM.

The company is sponsoring the Sports News on Dorset station 2CR FM and the Drive Time Show on Hampshire based Power FM. Together these stations reach 300,000 listeners a week, in areas with a combined population of 1.6 million people.

Kevin Byrne, Checkatrade founder and CEO, said: “These sponsorships are an exciting addition to our current marketing portfolio. We now sponsor shows on several Southern stations covering an area from Eastbourne through to Dorchester.”

Checkatrade also sponsors the Drive Time Show on the South’s largest station, Southern FM, the Rip Off Files on Wave 105 FM, traffic and travel reports on Dream FM, as well as The Legends Show on Surrey station Eagle FM. They have also sponsored Spirit FM’s Local Hero Awards and the Christmas Awards on Bright FM.

Kevin Byrne went on to say: “Our aim is to alert the general public to the services of Checkatrade members, all of whom are vetted and continuously monitored by public report, and to ensure rogue traders are kept out of our homes and communities. Checkatrade is now generating an estimated 300,000 jobs a year to an annual value of £150 million. This means we are helping honest tradespersons to protect thousands of customers each year, saving them hassle and money”.

NOTES TO EDITORS

Checkatrade helps combat the UK's rogue trader problem by continuously vetting and monitoring local traders such as builders, plumbers and electricians. The idea was born in 1998 after a tornado hit the small West Sussex town of Selsey. Traders poured in from as far away as Liverpool and Manchester. Unfortunately, some ripped off the inhabitants of the town. Local businessman, Kevin Byrne, realised there was nowhere to check out the traders’ credentials and the company that became Checkatrade was formed.

Since then, Checkatrade has grown to include over 6,300 genuine trade members, growing by an average 120 new members every month, and, via the Royal Mail, distributes 5.9 million directories a year into communities throughout Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex, Dorset and Berkshire, while the website includes traders from across the UK.
