The county's leading business figures are in line for a major award.

The shortlist for the Entrepreneur of the Year category of the Sussex Business Awards 2011 has been announced.
This years shortlist features Kevin Byrne, the founder of the Selsey-based Checkatrade, the UK's leading online directory of trusted tradespeople, Gary Peters, the founder of ICP Search, an executive search organisation and more recently, BrightonandHovejobs.com, Phillipa Stephen-Martin, the founder of Brighton and Worthing based CBabiesSafe and more recently, Manor of Things.
The trio join 32 companies from across the county hoping to win one or more of the 11 trophies up for grabs, including Sussex Company of the Year and Sussex Business Person of the Year.
Celebrating business excellence across Sussex, the awards are the longest established scheme of it's kind in the county. This year marks the 23rd anniversary of the competition.
The county's leading business people will gather to see the awards presented by The Apprentice star Ruth Badger at the Grand hotel in Kings Road Brighton on December 1st.

Checkatrade helps combat the UK's rogue trader problem by continuously vetting and monitoring local traders such as builders, plumbers and electricians. The idea was born in 1998 after a tornado hit the small West Sussex town of Selsey. Traders poured in from as far away as Liverpool and Manchester. Unfortunately, some ripped off the inhabitants of the town. Local businessman, Kevin Byrne, realised there was nowhere to check out the traders’ credentials and the company that became Checkatrade was formed.
Since then, Checkatrade has grown to include over 6,300 genuine trade members, growing by an average 120 new members every month, and, via the Royal Mail, distributes 5.9 million directories a year into communities throughout Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex, Dorset and Berkshire, while the website includes traders from across the UK.
