Very unprofessional. Very poor timekeeping. Not one room was properly completed. He did originally provide a written detailed estimate - we agreed to £5980 verbally. A written estimate was provided the third week of work and it was for £6980. When i said that this was £1000 more than the original verbal estimate on which we had shaken hands, he said no we had agreed £6980 but that he would settle for £6480 otherwise he would walk off the job. That evening he telephone to say that the amount agreed was indeed £5980 and that I had been right after all. I was concerned that I witnessed his work that it was poor he constantly boasted that his work was of the highest quality, I can assure you it is not. Many of the jobs discussed and included in the verbal estimate were not carried out at all and some very sketchily done. He was paid by cash as requested by him throughout the job. After four weeks £390 remained to be paid - but a great deal of the work still had not been done. He insisited payment of the final £390 be paid and he would finish the work after. I said I would pay this amount on completion of the work. He said if I didn't give him at least £300 he would walk off the job. I said he had better walk off then because I was not paying any more until the work was finished. He went but came back saying he would finish the job but that he would charge me an extra £150 for putting a fireplace in which he had originally volunteered to do as part of the renovation. I asked if this was a fine for not paying the £300 at his demand but he said ....that the job had gone on longer than the three weeks originally estimated and he had to get the money from somewhere. This job could and should have been completed in three week and although other odd people were sometimes assigned by him to do some work he himself was often somewhere else doing other jobs ie in Guildford and four days in Wales, family probelms etc etc. When he did come he came late and went early. He spent en
Customer in
Rustington,
7 November 2006Response from SCS Dunning:
I was contacted by this customer to give them a quote for a complete re-decoration, including some carpentry work and minor building works. They were provided with a written quotation and although I except that there was at one point confusion over the price, due to a clerical error, the client only ever paid the agreed price plus an additional £20 for extra work carried out. The confusion was more to do with the fact that the client continually changed their minds about aspects of the work. I had originally and loosley agreed that I hoped the work I hoped the would be completed within three weeks, however this proved almost impossible as the clients insisted on staying in the house and as they had only just moved I was constantly moving furniture and boxes in order to carry out the work. When I agreed to do the work I did explain to the customer that I was already committed to start a contract in Wales, which I then had to postpone for a week in order to complete their works. There was a painter on site at all times and a qualified carpenter carried out other necessary works. As for the comments about punctuality, I did leave on three occassions as the customer was vomiting and was obviously unwell and I did not feel that it was appropriate or particulary safe for me to be there. I have to express that these clients were particularly difficult to please and it would not have mattered to what level the work was completed they would never have been satisfied. As people using the website will see I have never had these sort of negative comments made and all of my clients have been very satisfied with the standard of work, customer service and finishing and I pride myself on that.
