Welcome to Shakespeare Carpentry, we are a small family run business with 11 years experience of working with customers to achieve the highest standard of carpentry for your individual requirements. We have one carpenter – Alister who completed an apprenticeship and gained his City and Guilds NVQ level 3 in carpentry and joinery. Alister prides himself on the quality of his workmanship, that is why Shakespeare Carpentry is able to guarantee any work carried out by us to come with a 12 month workmanship guarantee. Alister is dedicated to provide all customers with a first class carpentry service which is stress free. Alister is reliable and honest, two attributes we believe are important for you as a customer when employing a tradesman to undertake carpentry work within your home. Alister has a clean enhanced criminal records check and Shakespeare Carpentry is fully insured (please see our accreditations section). We are able to provide a comprehensive carpentry service. We can provide all customers with free quotations and impartial advice on any carpentry issue. No job is too small, we have undertaken many small jobs over the few months and along with larger jobs such as fencing (please read our customer comments for what our previous customers have said about our work). We understand some customers like to get involved with buying the materials for work to be completed themselves – this is absolutely fine. We are able to provide a labour only service or a complete service with us purchasing the materials on your behalf and completing your carpentry work. We are also able to offer a rubbish removal service, which for a small fee we can remove and dispose (responsibly) of the waste from the job completed (see our accreditations section – as we are a registered waste carrier).

Supply and fit two new internal doors
Alistair arrived very promptly at the arranged time and completed the works to a high standard. He was very tidy and the price for the works was very reasonable. We will be getting him back shortly to undertake further works of which he was able to provide us with good advice.

Replace banisters on upstairs landing
Alister was very thorough on researching suppliers and goods and provided an extremely reasonable quote. He arrived punctually at the time agreed and very quickly got on with the job. He cleaned up very conscientiously afterwards too. The banisters have been fitted very professionally and look fantastic. I am more than happy with Alister and his work and would happily recommend him to anyone.

Fitted laminate flooring in living room and hallway
Polite and very efficient worker who completed the job in two days to a generally high standard. Quote was for fitting laminate in a tricky hallway and large living room, and included trimming of the doors. But fitted laminate in small downstairs cloakroom at no extra cost, which we were very grateful for. In our opinion negatives: Pulled old trim off, which had been pained as part of the skirting board by previous owner, without cutting the layers of paint at the join to the skirting board first. So in places there are patches of old yellow paint above the new wood scotia where top layers of paint had been pulled off up the skirting board. To cover this up requires a steady hand or removing scotia first. Also took photos of our living room without asking.

In response to the customers comment I feel that we have to disagree the existing flooring was removed carefully and gently prised away to prevent damage to the skirting boards. Verbal consent was agreed to the 2 photos being taken as to why the customer knowing of the 2 pictures taken. These images have never been published on checkatrade and will not be be published due to the withdrawal of the owners consent from the feedback. Neither of the two negative issues were raised to us personally in which in any incident we would try to resolve. Shakespeare Carpentry are now in our 3rd year of membership and grateful to all our customers and feedback we have received.

Supply and fit overclad fascia and soffit to house, guttering and downpipe
Alister was reliable, hardworking and efficient. He did an excellent job on the fascias of our house, including guttering and fitment of new downpipes. We definitely recommend him!
