Here at Spencer Carpentry I specialise in bespoke storage solutions and handmade furniture but undertake all aspects of carpentry and joinery.

I strive for high standards and only the best quality finishes within my work. Coming from an 8 year career in the Royal Marines I am no stranger to working hard and long hours in order to achieve the best results.

I have experience in all aspects of Carpentry and joinery including, Bespoke Kitchens, Decking, Roofs, Bespoke Wardrobes/Cabinets, Flooring, Bar/Restaurant Conversions, Skirting, Architrave and Timber Framed Buildings to mention a few.

Carpentry
James built my roof on an extension to kitchen. His work was of the highest standard, meticulous with detail and finish. He was extremely affordable. Absolutely first rate workmanship and service. Thoroughly recommended.

Built-in Wardrobe adjustments including additional rail and shelf

Our Built-in Wardrobe only had one rail and shelf, but wasted a lot of space as this was right in the middle. James moved the original shelf and rail up, which involved shortening due to the sloping roof, and also fitted a new additional shelf and rail. James' work was excellent and he was very tidy. He was also friendly, polite and punctual, would definitely recommend.

Fit new engineered wood floor, repair rotten joists and sole plate, fix fuse box cabinet

We're extremely happy with James' work. He fit a new engineered floor for us and it looks great. His attention to detail is amazing. We had an issue with a partially sloping floor and James came up with a solution how to level it so that the new floor could be laid on top of the old floor boards. James also fixed several rotten joists and a sole plate underneath the floor. He also fixed a cabinet covering a fuse box. We changed our mind about part of the floor mid-way through, and James was flexible enough to make a change - nothing was too much trouble. James' work was really tidy, he left our house in a neat state every evening. We felt comfortable leaving him in the house with the house key- one of my friends commented that given that James is a former marine, our house was probably safer than on any other day! James also fixed a creaking step for us, and cut out a small cover for an unused fireplace - small things that were not in the original work spec, but were highly appreciated by us. We couldn't be happier with the work that James has done and would highly recommend him.

Bespoke shelving unit/tv cabinet

I would strongly recommend James. He was courteous and polite throughout, had good attention to detail, and produced a lovely bespoke unit with added detail to match our other furniture.

Created bespoke fitted wardrobe, shelving and stair rail

James's work is of a very high standard. We are really pleased with the bespoke wardrobe that he created from scratch in the nursery. A lot of thought and care went into it. We also had some under stairs storage created, which he provided the ideas for. A small shelf in the airing cupboard and a new banister rail for the stairs. I was very impressed with how tidy he was throughout the jobs and he always left us with a clean room/area. He is full of ideas and am confident that we will use him again in the future. Couldn't recommend him more.

Supply and fit of Engineered wooden Floor

This is the second piece of work James has completed for us within the last 6 months, and we are again very happy with the outcome. The quality of workmanship is again extremely high, and any challenges encountered were discussed with myself and overcome with ease. Would definitely recommend and will no doubt use again in the future.

Bespoke Wall Unit
Bespoke Wall Unit

This is the second time in five months that I have used James - the first time he supplied and fitted 6 internal wooden doors, and this time he made a bespoke wall unit for my living room from scratch. I supplied all the dimensions/specifications, which James checked and gave advice on, then he made the unit in his workshop and fitted it all together in situ. James is an excellent carpenter and has done a fantastic job. He is very meticulous, conscientious, extremely reliable, courteous, and I have no hesitation in recommending him again. I already have more plans for James to build some wardrobes for me in the future.

Trimming and rehanging two doors

I was in a bit of a fix as I was having trouble finding a carpenter to do a relatively small job. James kindly fitted me in around his other work and charged me a price that compared very favourably to two other estimates I received. He was punctual, friendly, polite and tidy. Highly recommended.
