Tiled refurbished bathroom.

We would not recommend or use Tile with Style again. As he boasted over 20 years experience and no previous complaints we had expected a much better finish. He blamed the newly plastered walls for being uneven. He made no attempt to find a mutually acceptable solution as per Checkatrades guidance. We felt that he was calling us a liar when he could not account for why he had continued to tile our bathroom if he felt there were issues preventing him from doing a good job. When we did raise our concerns prior to completion his response was argumentative and unhelpful. He knew we were unhappy with the job on the first day and that we had only allowed him to continue as he persuaded us the job would look better when completed. It didn't and he pushed for payment before my husband and I had both had chance to look more closely at the work. Some of the uneven tiling is un-missable. We feel that what should have been a well designed quality bathroom is amateur and unsightly and the trader will not accept any liability for the bad workmanship. The result is not what I expected from a professional.

I am extremely disappointed with this customer’s comments and scores. I was employed to tile the bathroom and had no invovlement with the design. I recommended a highly skilled plasterer, but the customer chose to use their own. Once the walls were plastered, I indicated that the walls were extremely uneven, however the customer advised me to proceed. Once works commenced, the customer telephoned me to discuss the poor quality of the tiling. I arranged to meet the customer's husband but he did not honour that commitment and instead I discussed the discrepancies with the wife and was advised to continue with the work. Upon completion the customer inspected the work, at which time she thanked me and paid in full. I was therefore dismayed some months later to then receive a complaint through Checkatrade complaining about the works and my professionalism.(I understand that she contacted Checkatrade 4 months after completion). I telephoned her immediately to resolve the issues she had raised. I found her to be abusive, sarcastic and rude, when I was trying to discuss why she was unhappy and if there was a way to resolve the issues raised. She ended the conversation rather abruptly; leaving me feeling extremely disheartened as she was not accepting my offer to resolve her grievances.

Their estimate was 3 sq m too low - luckily we had bought extra for another job. On site they were polite and organised, on first inspection, while the men were still wiping tiles things looked ok. Later a closer check showed uneven tile levels and grouting, chipped and faulty tiles used and tiles either proud or below the edging strip at most corners, which means that dirt and water will collect. Two appointments have been made with them to discuss this, they have not turned up and now will not even respond to phone messages.

The customer purchased the tiles and I felt they were very poor quality, with both varying sizes and some bowed, I did point this out but was told to go ahead. When the work was complete I went over the complete job with them and they were very pleased, shook my hand and thanked me. Some weeks later I received a call advising me of their dissatisfaction and arranged an appointment, but they were out when I arrived for it so could not inspect the problems. I then received a telephone calls with my total inability to appease them no matter what I suggested. I take great pride in the work and service which I provide and always want the customer to be happy with the end result. My customers come first and foremost as you can see from my other reviews on the Checkatrade website.
