Estimate for re routing of condense pipe.
I thought as I was calling a Chichester number I was calling a local firm, not so, they are in Southampton. Called them in to provide an estimate for re-routing a condense pipe. Their engineers’ opinion was this was unnecessary. He insisted on inspecting the boiler, eventually cutting off gas supply stating immediately dangerous. The boiler is under contract with another company so I arranged for them to attend 48hrs later. When they did, they immediately put the gas back on stating there was no evidence of leakage and that the Your Plumber engineer had acted prematurely. Despite confirming to both the engineer and his head office that the other company were booked to attend, they wouldn’t leave us with heating. Sharon from their office did her best to assist but was ultimately unable to do so. She said she would get her director to contact me later that day that was 22 days ago; I’m still awaiting that call. She was professional in her dealings which are more than I can say for the engineer who in my opinion, walked around my home shaking his head as I had the audacity to challenge his decision with his office. I have not been charged by Your Plumber, just inconvenienced.

As advertised on Checkatrade we cover Chichester, Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester and surrounding areas. I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused to the customer, but we are governed by the Industry Regulator who are Gas Safe. While we were with the customer he challenged our Engineers decision to cut the gas supply and wanted it turned back on. Our Engineer explained to him that this would be totally against Gas Safes and Our Policy. I can understand the customers’ frustration at having the gas turned off, but we have a Duty of Care to any customer who in our opinion has a gas safety issue. The gas could only be put back on after the required repair had been executed, which the customer’s other company, who he has his contract with, will have had to have done prior to putting the gas back on. Yes, our senior Gas Engineer who attended was frustrated whilst on site, as the customer was questioning his integrity and that of the Gas Safe Helpline who also advised the customer the gas needed to be shut down.

Jamie arrived at the stated time, giving me a phone call before to confirm. They were very polite and curteuous. The work was done to a high standard and the bathroom was left very tidy after the work was done. Very happy with the service.
