Heating service

Our boiler has not been serviced at all by the previous owner of our house (so at least for 17 years). The service was carried out efficiently, and a problem that we had with a gas smell from the outside fan was sorted out. Unfortunately, the efficiency of the service then meant that the hot water became unbearably, scalding hot. In our opinion this was because of the service. We went back to BSW to explain the problem. They wanted another call-out fee plus labour costs. We gave up for a while then contacted them again as the water was (and still is) dangerously hot. They arranged a call-out, with attendant fee which they said would be waived 'if it could be proven that the service had called the problem'. We didn't have a choice - the water was/is scalding. 5 minutes before the engineer was due they called and cancelled!! Their work was good but they are definitely a one-time use company

Haywards Heath,
14 October 2010Response from BSW Central Heating Services:
We were contacted by the customer two months after the service with an issue that the tap water was too hot and that this must be attributable to the service we did. We stated that this was unlikely, but offered to send someone back that same day on the basis that the standard call out charge would apply if as expected this was not related to the service. Our engineer however was delayed that day and when we phoned to arrange with the client to book in the following day, she changed her mind and cancelled the visit as she suspected that it may be chargeable. We next heard at the end of April from Check trade. We contacted client and once again agreed to visit, explaining that this would be along the same lines as before, which she agreed to.
Our engineer called and checked the operation of the boiler and controls including thermostats. The cylinder thermostat (tap water) was set correctly to 60°C, which is the industry standard and in line with HSE and part L of the Building Regulations, to comply with the prevention of Legion Ella requirements and the actual temperature of the water was checked and found to be correct at 60°C. The client seemed satisfied with this conclusion and we invoiced our standard call out. We at BSW will always do our utmost to resolve issues for our customers and would immediately rectify any defects for which we are responsible.
