BUDE WINDOWS & CONSERVATORIES

Alan Britton – MD and surveyor at Bude Windows – shares the story of his successful Cornish company:

Building has always been in my blood. I’ve worked in the industry since 1970. Then, back in 1995 I decided to start my own business, with the support of Lorraine. We decided to specialise in window installations and double glazing because at the time there was a dearth of quality glazing and replacement window services in Bude and the surrounding area. We set out to fill the gap, based initially in our own home.

By the turn of the millennium our business had taken off to the extent that we had to move onto premises on the Kings Hill Industrial Estate, and just a few years later we had built our own office, storeroom and showroom.

It wasn’t long before our burgeoning business branched out way beyond just installing new windows and doors; we became known in Cornwall for supplying and fitting all sorts of high quality structures from conservatories and orangeries to car ports and awnings. I put the secret of our success down to never compromising on quality, whether it be in the materials and products we use or the high standard of workmanship we’ve become known for.

By the time my son, Daniel, joined the company to complete his apprenticeship in 2008, Bude Windows was busy and thriving. Once Daniel qualified as a builder he was happy to take on project managing conservatories and orangeries, while completing an NVQ2 in window fitting. With sound all-round knowledge of the company and expert skills under his belt, Daniel is now our very competent sales advisor, meeting our clients and assisting them with turning their vision into reality. Daniel’s main business philosophy can be summed up as “no pressure”. He’ll help, advise, work out a quote and specifications, but not put you under any obligation or deadline to decide.

Lorraine, meanwhile, is our company secretary and also handles the marketing portfolio, while the very able Samantha Ward is our long-term office manager, keeping everyone on their toes. The rest of our team are all highly-trained, professional glazing and building specialists, hand-picked for their qualifications and skills.

It has been a privilege and very exciting to watch the glazing industry evolve over the past 25 years to the point where there are so many fantastic options available for adding value to your home and lifestyle.
