“Asked him to replace a leaking boiler flue. He quoted me £250 for work and £300 for parts. On the day he arrived with a wrong part (different type of flue for another model of boiler). I asked him to double-check if part was correct first, he proceeded with disassembling existing flue, only to discover a minute later that part would not fit. Quick search for a cost of this part revealed that it should cost ~80 pounds, there were no offers even remotely approaching 300 pounds quoted. When I asked him about real cost of the part he made a rude hand gesture, after that I told him to leave.”

Response from Gas King Plumbing and Heating:
I quoted the customer £250 labour for an entire flue replacement with plume kit and a complete burner box insulation and a service on completion as we both discussed. There is no way all those parts cost £80. When it comes to flues and gas I don’t take chances replacing some of the parts.
The flue was ordered using the boiler GC number which is how boiler parts are ordered. My supplier apologised and made a plan to get the new flue to me the following morning. The customer then became irate and said I was overcharging him. I tried to explain that whatever he was looking at on the internet was not what I had bought. He continued his rant, so I suggested he get someone else to do his work for him. There is no way I would have made a rude hand gesture to him.
I then explained that I would have to make the boiler safe, to which he refused. I then phoned the national gas provider and they sent around an engineer to cap off the customers gas.
