“Ask the guy to come out look at installing electric hob and quote for work. It’s a straight forward job, gas hob already removed, electrical wall supply in place. Agreed £45 for 1 hour for 20 minute job. It took 2 hours said was more complicated than originally thought and left for half an hour to get a new part he should have had he even charged time to collect the part. Charged me £80 at end of job, I’m not happy, was ill on the day and had no energy to argue.”

Response from Montgomery Electrical:
I quoted at the customer’s premises on 9th November. We discussed the job, replacing a gas hob with an electric hob. The gas hob was in place with a cupboard below so I couldn’t see if there was a cooker outlet. I quoted £45 if it was straightforward and I could complete within the hour. 14th November I arrived. The hob was removed and there was no cable outlet, just a cable from the wall two feet down going to the oven. I explained the job wasn’t straightforward. It needed a dual cooker cable outlet, I popped off to purchase one. After removing the cupboard door/shelf I cut a square hole in the back of the cupboard. I cut the cable and fitted the cable outlet. I connected the oven cable and hob cable, a tricky operation working through the hole. I tested everything and clipped the hob in place. I re-fitted the cupboard shelf/door. The hob was safely and correctly installed. It took two hours, I charged £70 labour and £10 parts. The customer seemed pleased and paid immediately. I was shocked to days later receive a text demanding that I return £30 or he would leave negative feedback.
