A while ago I was asked about the difference between woodworking trades where does one start and stop and what do they do?
I was originally trained as an antique restorer. This work involves making and restoring furniture. It also involves the polishing of furniture.
Due to this background my services include
-The repair and polishing of handrails and panelling.
-Designing and making built-in and free-standing furniture.
Joiners are similar to cabinetmakers although they make the house furniture such as: doors, windows, and staircases etc.
As a qualified carpenter and joiner may services include
-The designing and building of staircases and handrails.
-Making doors and windows.
Making any other wood products in the house skirtings architraves etc.
Carpenters install the work done by cabinetmakers and joiners, as well as roofs and floor joists.
-As a trained carpenter and joiner, I install all types of joinery made by myself or other companies.
- This includes doors windows and staircases.
- I also install kitchens and bathrooms.
Most carpenters have a speciality having completed a two-year course in building conservation. My speciality is the restoration and controlling of problems within buildings. This is not necessarily old buildings as relatively young building can suffer from the same issues that old building suffer from.
My training in this field has allowed me to offer the services of.
-Sympathetic insulation of buildings, rather than using pvc windows existing windows can be draft proofed or double or secondary glazed. Insulation of walls does not have to always be obvious, the use of insulated built-in furniture can create a greater insulation value than modern insulation.
-Damp treatments: rising, falling, and condensation.
- Repairs to rotten and infested timbers.
The scope of my work may be wide however, it has taken over 30 years to understand the movement and treatment of timber.
If there is a particular project that is not listed above please contact me as I may be able to help.
Please note small jobs are welcome.
