“November 2012 trader laid a Patio in our back garden. The date for the work was chosen by the trader. The temperature whilst he was laying it was 6 degrees below zero. Admittedly he told us that he had used Frost Protector in the mortar, and he did cover the area with blankets and a tarpaulin. The fact is that neither of these methods worked. All the pointing has since crumbled and most of the slabs were loose. We contacted the trader to tell him and claim under his 5 year guarantee. After a few missed appointments he did come round and agreed that the whole Patio would have to be re-laid, but he said this was not his fault and asked for extra money, which I disputed. The work was supposed to start on 5th August but didn't. He did eventually start the work, but the work still isn't completed. We were promised in an email that it would "definitely be finished by the end of September". The pointing is yet to be done and one of the slabs is now missing. I have lost count of the number of times he has made an appointment to come and cancelled at the last minute.”

Response from S J Ryan:
This gentleman was a nice customer to work for. The patio was laid and completed and the customer appeared very happy. The mortar had frost proofer in it, and the patio was covered over for 2 weeks, but unfortunately was affected by frost. I went back and have completely re-laid the patio. I have received no money from the customer, I only mentioned it would be a help to pay for materials. I feel very disappointed with the customers comments.
