ESTABLISHED 1975. I am apprenticeship served, City and Guilds qualified and have a wealth of experience gained from 45 years of working within the various fields of woodwork, this is well supported by my extensive portfolio of not only digital images but also good old-fashioned photographic prints. On introduction, as well as identification I always present potential clients with proof of my qualifications, insurance and memberships, these are also available on request.
WOODWORK BY DAVID J. LAW undertakes bespoke woodwork projects in the fields of: Joinery, Shopfitting, Exhibition, Kitchens, Bedrooms, Bathrooms, Studies and Furniture. I also undertake property renovation, refurbishment and maintenance. From my fully equipped Dudley based Joinery/workshop I manufacture and install projects throughout the UK mainland. Over the years I have undertaken projects in most English counties, Wales, France and Spain. These projects have included churches, listed buildings, museums, libraries, office suites, factories, high street shops, department stores, retail parks, sports stadiums, exhibition venues, foreign embassies, schools/colleges, social/night clubs, restaurants/bistros and public houses, as well as numerous family homes. And amongst my clientele have been well known personalities from the world of music, television, film and sport, plus aristocracy, foreign royals, politicians and diplomats.
Approximately 95% of my work is bespoke, therefore as I make everything myself apart from wood turnings and some decorative mouldings it is only pictures of these projects displayed on my website and advertising platforms. The remainder of my time is taken up by supplying and fitting quality pre-made kitchens, bedrooms and joinery products. As well as working with contemporary designs I also like to keep one foot firmly planted in the past, this allows me to help maintain and preserve traditional methods and values. I believe that the art of creating something, whether it is a contemporary fitted bookcase or a traditional box sash window for example is that it should relate to its period and/or surroundings and not look out of place, thus giving the impression that it has always been there. This is certainly the case with any preservation work carried out on listed properties and in conservation areas. Of course nowadays there are usually health and safety issues to consider and in many cases certain upgrades that can be applied, these can be sympathetically integrated so they not only improve the product but more importantly still retain the look of originality.
I have reasonably good regional knowledge from working throughout the UK mainland and from having had previous workshops based in London x 2 (Acton 1980-89 and Chiswick 1994-02), Sheffield (Penistone 2002-11) and Wolverhampton (Tettenhall 2013-14), following through to my current workshop based in Dudley. Dudley is perfectly positioned in a geographically central location enabling me to access and serve my clients old and new throughout the UK mainland. This is made much easier by the proximity of the nearby M5 and M6 motorways and their links to adjoining motorways and major road networks. As a well-travelled Londoner I also look forward to occasionally returning to the Capital to undertake projects, so for this reason I continue to advertise and maintain a landline telephone there (on website) which is diverted directly to me. My travels have also introduced me to many suppliers and useful local tradesmen, particularly plumbers and electricians who I have often befriended and used again.
I offer free no obligation visits to meet potential clients to discuss their requirements and ideas, but if preferred this can also be done via email if sufficient information is provided, or by a workshop visit. Although workshop visits are welcomed, they are by appointment only as opening hours are subject to change during installations. My workshop opening hours are generally between 7.00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday, but I often work longer hours and sometimes at weekends depending on my workload or having to meet scheduled timescales, but it is always advisable to check first. I am always happy to give advice and offer a warm friendly service, enhanced by my unblemished reputation for quality, reliability, trust and value. Not only am I a member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen but also the Woodland Trust, this is my way of giving something back and taking some environmental responsibility for the impact my trade has on natural resources. I do this by helping to fund the conservation, sustainability and management of our woods and forests. Please refer to my website for further information and the history of WOODWORK BY DAVID J. LAW.
