Antique Block Paved Driveway.
We are very pleased with the finished driveway, would suggest to make sure both measurements and price are given in writing and ensure that confirmed site times are adhered to.

All estimates are supplied in writing. I am an easy going person and I take people at face value, the customer had already measured the driveway and was insistant that his measurements were correct, therefore I did not take measurements myself, unfortunately the driveway turned out to be 30m2 bigger than the customer measured. The additional costs incurred were borne by my company not by the customer.

Checkatrade View:
The issue here seems to be the size of the drive. We commend Arun Driveways for footing the bill for the extra 30msq, even though the measurements were given by the customer. Well done Arun Driveways.

Owner asked for payment in advance which we agreed to but work was not completed. A wall was not made good, drainpipes were removed & left for us to fix, an area was left un-tiled, etc. We have called at least twice to request completion. On one occasion someone came round and agreed the work was not complete & said will return the next week to sort it out but this never happened. Prior to work starting the service was very courteous and professional. There were a couple of times while work was in progress which did get resolved but now work complete we do not seem to be able to get any satisfactory response from Arun Driveways.

Response from Arun Driveways:
Payment was made to me 2 days before customer was going on holiday. By instructions from customer the downpipe at rear of property was left off, as new was being fitted along with facias and guttering. Area near patio was left as customer informed us they were going to be placing a new shed in this area. We spoke with Mr Crank and advised that when the new shed was in place we would be happy to come back to this job and place more edging around new shed, but no contact has been received by the customer to carry out.

Checkatrade View:
It would seem that due to trader and customer not always being present at time of works being carried out, some confusion may have arisen surrounding these works. We feel clarification may be all that would have been required for all parties involved. The look of the completed driveway obviously impressed others as 3 new customers have booked with this trader to have their driveways built.

New Driveway
Water pooling on driveway, brick pillar damaged and not rebuilt as promised, damage to hedge, which will not recover, damage to down pipe and wall where they cleaned their trowels.  Has failed to come and rectify despite several promises to do so. The pooling was not rectified at all. I lifted, re-screeded and relayed the blocks myself for a portion of the worst affected areas. The pillar was not damaged before they started and although he offered to re build it I was not going to pay for something I was not responsible for. The pillar has in fact been put back the wrong way round. Had it been reinstated properly, it would have been better.

Breaking up old driveway and laying paved drive.
Very pleasant and helpful at quote stage. However when work started agreed arrangements were not adhered to. Whilst finish looks good, levels were not properly checked and inadequate clearance left. Work left uncompleted.

Response from Arun Driveways:
We did have problems with this contract. In order for the driveway to be level it created a small height difference where it met the side path. Customer was insistant that he would prefer the driveway to have a slope so that it became level with the path, unfortunately this was against my professional opinion, as it would now create puddling. We reduced the level as the customer requested. I would like to add, this has been the most difficult experience I have had in the 22 years of installing driveways.

Unhappy with the aftersales. Numerous phone calls and a letter about a wall damaged during works, also water collects on drive still not rectified after all this time, August 2006 - January 2008. This has cost a lot of money in mobile calls to boss of firm.

Response from Arun Driveways:
We believe the quality of our work was very good and we issued a 5 year instalment warranty to cover any problems. With regards to the water collecting on the drive, we had an informal visual inspection by the area manager of Bretts who said there was nothing wrong. The pillar which is between the customers and their neighbours house was about 70 years old, had 2 small knocks about 1 inch across (which we may not have done), however we did offer to replace the 2 damaged bricks but the customer wanted the whole pillar replaced. This we would not do especially as the neighbours did not want the pillar replaced. As you can see we do try to rectify any problems.

Checkatrade View:
 As a Brett area manager inspected this driveway and approved it and a 5 year warranty was issued we believe that the trader acted and performed adequately, hence we have removed all the scores given by the consumer except tidiness. Also the comment came in 18 months after the work was completed and at a time of extreme rainfall which affected many properties in the South.

New driveway.
Estimate on one part went up by 350 percent! Hours a day worked was a joke - job took twice as long as estimated. Sand left everywhere BUT overall a nice job. The owner is a nice guy and very pleasant. I would recommend to others.

I quoted a fixed price to do this job - even tho' when we started digging we found reinforced concrete which was 8 inches thick, hence the length of time taken at no extra cost.
