  Maurice Wills of Penfield Construction Ltd replied promptly to our inquiry and sent one of his team to make an assessment. His quotation was accepted and it was agreed that carpenter, Joe would carry out the work on the following Saturday. Due to illness, this had to be cancelled but Joe came two days later on Bank Holiday Monday and worked non-stop. He was efficient, effective and extremely tidy. We are grateful for the personable and professional manner in which he worked on our home. We are happy to recommend Penfield Construction to friends and family.

• Major renovation of an 18th century house

  Penfield Construction were appointed as builders and project managers of a large renovation project of an 18th century house. We could not have been more pleased with their quality of build and overall professionalism. To complicate their job for us, they had to work around an elderly gentleman and at all times they were considerate of his needs. All the trades who were engaged on the project were courteous, tidy, conscientious and did what they said they would do, when they said they would. Communication and discussion as the project progressed was thorough and good.

• Four items of work in our Grade II listed former village shop&PO, now wholly residential

  First job: Penfields installed a low mortar plinth along the bottom of the exterior frontage of most of the former shop area to prevent further ingress of surface water from the road outside into the old stone/rubble-brick wall. Second: Removed 'blown' and damp render from large area of the interior face of the exterior wall, left to dry out, then replaced with new lime-bound render in three stages. Third: Converted a plasterboard-blocked former doorway into a recessed storage matrix for CDs. Fourth: Remedied previous work done by others on a wall section in the former sorting-office area.

  I recently had the pleasure of working with this exceptional builder who went above and beyond to repair a wall for me at very short notice. Despite challenging weather conditions,the job was completed on time and within budget, and I am thrilled with the results. One of the things that impressed me the most about this builder was their professionalism and responsiveness. They promptly assessed the situation and provided me with a detailed quote that was transparent and fair. They clearly communicated the scope of the work.
