Kevin gave sound advice on what needs to be done. On the day of the job was on time and carried out his work without causing us any disruption and did create or leave any mess. Would use again and recommend others to do so also!.

  • Rendering rear bungalow and garage walls and plastering study room

    10Verified Review

Kevin was very professional and reliable from the initial quotation to the end of this 7-day job. He proposed the most practical solution for our rendering job as well as solving the damp issue on one of the walls by tanking the wall before rendering it. The final render is smooth and easy to paint, just as we wanted. He also put hard walls and plaster on the internal walls of the study behind the garage which resulted in an even and smooth finish hiding all electrical cables. Kevin was very helpful and a pleasure to work with. We are very happy with the result and would highly recommend him!

Company info

Welcome to our Checkatrade page and thank you for taking the time to look into our details. PlasterHawks are a family run business and we have been established for over 10 years offering quality advice and services, no job too big or small.  Please see our website for more detailed information and pictures specialising the following areas.  www.plasterhawks.co.uk

  • Plastering
  • Rendering/Monocouche render
  • Damp Surveys (CSRT Qualified Surveyor)
  • Damp Control - Solutions to fit all issues resulting from Damp
  • Penetrating - Extreme Climate ONE COAT water seal which stops penetrating damp

Penetrating damp is when rainwater is penetrating through brickwork, this can happen if the mortar in the brickwork has become brittle and loose or the bricks themselves have become very porous over time, defective guttering etc.  This requires a different remedial treatment.  A water repellent coating can be applied, this will allow the bricks to still breathe and repel water.  The cause of the issue will need to be fixed, ie re pointed, guttering fixed etc.  I use Kingfisher Building Products, Extreme Climate ONE COAT water seal which stops penetrating damp using the latest fluorocarbon technology to create the best performing (100% breathable) brick and stone sealer available today. With a lifespan of up to 10 years and no surface darkening.

  • Raising Damp - Chemical Damp proof course (DPC)

Raising damp is when moisture is absorbed from the ground into the walls, by capillary action through the pores of the masonry seeking a means of evaporation.  All new houses are built with a Damp proof course (DPC) which forms a barrier against the moisture rising.  Older houses however may have been built without a DPC or over a period of time and changes to the building, i.e. built up patios may have become defective.  A new DPC can be installed creating that barrier against moisture.

  • Condensation Control - Specialist paint solutions and Positive Input Ventilation (PIV)

Condensation occurs in cold weather when warm humid air cools on contact with cold surfaces like external walls and windows and in places of poor air circulation such as corners, behind wardrobes and cupboards.  These are ideal conditions for black mould to grow and will grow rapidly if not addressed.  The amount of condensation a home has, depends on the occupant’s lifestyle and the ventilation in place, pets, people and gas fires are all producers of moisture.

Some simple steps can reduce the condensation: Low constant heating, Don’t dry clothes indoors or on radiators, Cover pans when cooking, make sure tumble dryers are vented, Air vents are unblocked, Trickle vents are open, Use a UniBond Aero-360 Pure Moisture Absorber Device or similar device, Dehumidifiers.

In more extreme cases of condensation and where large amounts of Black mould have built up more robust measures may be necessary

Option 1. This solution will significantly reduce condensation and the regrowth of Black mould spores

a. Increase ventilation
b. Removal of Black Mould with Black Mould remover.
c. Paint area with Anti-mould specialist paint

Option 2. Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) This system takes out the humid air and any other pollutants and replaces it with clean filtered air, improving the air condition in your home.
