PERSONAL SERVICE IS OUR AIM: Appleby’s Removals was established in 1892 (though we have retired the horses!) Our vehicles are specific to the removal industry with tie-bars, blankets and webbing straps so that your goods are loaded and secured for the journey. Our moves can be local or long distance – we don’t mind which, but generally start from Clacton , Walton , Frinton , Harwich ie the North East Essex area and less frequently people moving to these locations from elsewhere in England. We take pride in going the extra mile for our elderly or more vulnerable customers who may not have moved for many years and who possibly are having to manage it on their own and find it all rather daunting – they get a bit of extra TLC. We can also offer packing services if needed. We like to do quotes in person and fairly early on in the house buying process, once you have made an offer and it has been accepted, we can come and look and decide how many men and vehicles are needed , distance involved and calculate the cost. Then when you are ready to exchange you can talk to us about dates and as we already know what is involved with your particular move, we feel happier about holding dates temporarily for the customer and you already know what it is going to cost. It is not unusual nowadays for us to move a complete house into storage for a while whilst a new property is found or worked on, before we get another call to arrange delivery of everything in storage. This is where having our own storage available is helpful.

If requested packing materials are supplied as part of your removal quote, but if you are moving yourself, or arranging self-storage, we sell the necessary cartons, tape, bubble and paper. Occasionally we may have “pre-loved” cartons which are quite a bargain as start at £1.

We also have a storage facility for self-storage , or for short/ long term storage where no access is required. We can offer collection or delivery by our staff if you do not want to bring in yourself. Self storage to us means that the customer needs frequent access so they want to be able to get their vehicle nearby and no notice is required, as we are open Monday to Friday 9-5. However we also have storage boxes and containers that are put away by forklift truck, so these do need notice, but these are ideal for longer term storage with no access. I will say we get more in them if we do the packing, however we can make available to pack and unpack yourself or by another firm. We have some pictures on this web site, but we also welcome inspection by appointment.  We also try our hardest to help existing customers increase or decrease the size of their storage when needed. Come and see us during the week, although we’d appreciate a phone call first, as we take precautions as a consequence of Covid 19 and maintain distancing as well as other precautions as advised by the Government and HSE.
