• Rear extension: excellent work at a fair price

  We can recommend John Smith without hesitation. John's came round and quoted the lowest price. We were confident in him and saw some of his completed work. John was quite laid back right through the job, it all seemed very routine to him. John recommended a designer and the extension was completed about 13 weeks. As expected, there were complications which John calmly dealt with and he reassured us all would be well. The price quoted was the price we paid and the extras were at a reasonable price. John's team were professional and a pleasure to have on site. Overall, a first class experience.

  John and his team recently completed a single storey rear extension for us, and we’re delighted with the results. It’s been completed to a high standard and at a fair price. There are lots of cowboys out there but John is a professional, honest and trustworthy and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to others.

  John and Colin Smith Builders are a very competent, honest building firm and are easy to deal with. All their trades have completed their work to a very high standard and they have been very polite and courteous through out the build. They demonstrated their experience by being able to keep the disruption to a minimum and over came any challenge. I was impressed by the way they reused yellow stocks from part of the house they demolished to ensure the new extension tied seamlessly into the existing house. They also somehow kept a kitchen sink and washing machine working to the very last day.

  John, his team and associated tradesmen were very skilled at their different professions - ground work, brick laying, carpentry, roofing, plastering, tiling.... - it was a pleasure to watch the building take shape at each stage and become a beautiful living space. They worked well together (eg putting up our heavy roof lantern!) and were very mindful that we were still living and working there while the building work was going on. We are really happy with the new spaces John and team have created for us. It's made such a difference to our lives. Thanks so much!

• Taking down and rebuilding a wall

  Job was done to a high standard in agreed time frame. I was kept in the loop how the job was going and had reply’s to any enquiries I made. It was a refreshing change from a lot builders I had dealt with. The job was done as described and NO shortcuts were taken. Very pleased, would happily recommend
