Consumer Terms And Conditions Checkatrade Express
Effective 20 May 2026
These Terms explain how Checkatrade Express works and what to expect when You use it through the Checkatrade platform. QUICK SUMMARY:
Checkatrade Express helps You book and pay for services from a Checkatrade Member – all in one place.
Your contract is directly with the Checkatrade Member.
Payments are handled by a regulated payment provider – not Checkatrade.
You'll always see what You're paying and when before confirming a Booking.
1. What is Checkatrade Express
Checkatrade Express helps You book and pay for services from a Checkatrade Member – all in one place. It's here to save You time, keep payments secure, and take the hassle out of getting jobs done.
Your contract for the services is directly with the Checkatrade Member. We simply make it easier to arrange and pay for those services.
We don't carry out, manage or assure the quality of the work. Every Checkatrade Member is responsible for providing the services safely, lawfully, and to a reasonable standard.
The Checkatrade Members available to book through Express have all passed our checks and meet our ongoing standards.
You'll be matched with a Checkatrade Member based on things like location, availability and reviews. Paid promotion or sponsorship never affects matching unless clearly shown.
2. Who are We and how do these terms work
Express is provided by Checkatrade, a trading name of Vetted Limited (company number 04285394). Our registered office is CityPoint, 1 Ropemaker Street, London EC2Y 9SS.
These terms explain how You can use Checkatrade Express. When You make a Booking, You agree to follow them. If You have any questions about Express or these terms, email us at express@checkatrade.com.
Your use of Express also means You accept our Platform Terms of Use, which apply to everyone using the Checkatrade website or app. If these terms ever conflict with the Platform Terms of Use, these Express terms take priority.
Some Express services may have additional terms or operational guides. These are explained in the relevant section below or found here.
Your use of Express also means You accept our Platform Terms of Use, which apply to everyone using the Checkatrade Website or app. If these terms ever conflict with the Platform Terms, these Express terms take priority.
Some Express products may have extra terms. These are explained in the relevant policy shown when you book
3. Meaning of Terms
Booking Request: This is Your request sent through Checkatrade asking a Checkatrade Member to provide services. They can accept it or turn it down.
Booking: Once a Checkatrade Member accepts Your Booking Request, it becomes a Booking. That's when You've got a confirmed job and payment will be authorised.
Job Price: This is what You'll pay to the Checkatrade Member for the work - it doesn't include any fees we might charge.
Booking Fee: We may charge a fee for using Checkatrade Express. It's separate from the Job Price and we'll show You it clearly before You confirm.
Authorised Payment: When You confirm a Booking, we put a hold on Your card for the total amount - this includes the Job Price and any Booking Fee. Your bank shows it as pending.
Checkatrade Member: Someone who provides services through Express and has passed our membership checks and meets our standards. They could be a tradesperson, mover, or other service provider.
4. How Booking Works
When You submit a Booking Request, we share it with available Checkatrade Members. They'll review your request and can either accept it or decline it.
If a Checkatrade Member accepts, Your Booking is confirmed. You'll get a summary with the Job Price, any Booking Fee, the total Authorised Payment, and details of the Checkatrade Member.
When You first submit a Booking Request, the Checkatrade Member only sees basic information - like the postcode and what You need done. We do this to protect Your privacy. If they accept, we then share Your full contact details and address so they can get the job done properly.
Normally we only share Your information with one Checkatrade Member. But if the Booking gets cancelled or reassigned, we may share it with another Checkatrade Member to find You a replacement.
5. How We Price your Booking
We'll show You the Job Price and any Booking Fee clearly before You confirm Your Booking. You'll always know exactly what You're paying and what that includes before You commit.
Your Job Price is based on the information You give us when You book. If Your booking details change after booking - for example, if service requirements change, or if access or delivery arrangements change, Your Job Price may change as well.
6. Your 14-Day Cooling-Off Right
You have a legal right to cancel a home removals Booking within 14 days of the Booking being confirmed.
But if You ask us to start the move during that 14-day period, You're agreeing that the Checkatrade Member can begin preparing and carrying out the move straight away. If You later cancel, You may have to pay for the work they've already done.
If the move is fully completed during the 14-day period, You may lose Your right to cancel once it's done. Nothing in these terms affects any legal rights You have under consumer protection laws.
7. Booking Fees
We may charge a Booking Fee for using Checkatrade Express. This is separate from the Job Price You pay to the Checkatrade Member.
We'll show any Booking Fee clearly before You confirm Your Booking, and it'll be included in the total amount we authorise on Your card.
Booking Fees are normally non-refundable unless the law says otherwise.
8. How payments work
PAYMENTS THROUGH CHECKATRADE EXPRESS ARE PROCESSED BY ADYEN N.V., AN AUTHORISED PAYMENT INSTITUTION REGULATED BY THE FINANCIAL CONDUCT AUTHORITY. WE DON'T ACT AS YOUR OR THE CHECKATRADE MEMBER'S AGENT FOR RECEIVING OR HOLDING MONEY.
In other words: a third-party payment processor handles all the money, not us. This keeps everything secure and protects both You and the Checkatrade Member.
When You confirm a Booking, the payment provider puts an Authorised Payment on hold on Your card. Your bank shows it as pending but doesn't actually take the money yet.
The money stays on hold until the Checkatrade Member marks the work as done, or if You don't respond, until 24 hours after we tell You it's complete. Then the payment provider releases the Job Price to the Checkatrade Member and any Booking Fee to us.
All payments are processed by Adyen N.V. in line with their terms and privacy policy. We don't hold or process customer funds ourselves.
If there's a problem with Your payment, Your Booking may not be confirmed, we won't share Your details with the Checkatrade Member, and the Booking may be cancelled if the issue isn't fixed before the scheduled date.
9. Cancellations
Cancellations are handled under the Cancellation Policy that sets out the rules upfront, this way You know what to expect if plans change. Each Checkatrade Member agrees to follow it when providing services through Express. The policy is part of Your contract with the Checkatrade Member, not with us.
The Cancellation Policy explains when and how You can cancel, what fees or refunds apply, and what happens to Your payment. Different services may have different cancellation policies - You'll see the relevant policy when You book.
10. When the job’s done
When the Checkatrade Member marks the work as complete, You'll get a notification through Checkatrade. You then have 24 hours to confirm it's done or to flag any problems.
If You're not happy, use the "dispute" button in Your account within that 24-hour window. The payment provider may then hold Your payment while You and the Checkatrade Member try to sort things out.
If You don't respond within 24 hours, we'll assume the work is done. The payment provider will then release the Job Price to the Checkatrade Member and any Booking Fee to us.
11. If there’s a problem
Remember, Your contract is with the Checkatrade Member, not with us. Any issues with the services themselves are between You and them.
If You're not happy with the services, here's what happens: You can raise a dispute through the platform within 24 hours of completion. You'll find more detail on how disputes work in our Disputes FAQ.
We don't handle individual disputes or process refunds directly. But we do review complaints against our membership rules, and we can take action against a Checkatrade Member if they've breached our standards.
You may also be covered by the Checkatrade Guarantee, which is separate from Your contract with the Checkatrade Member. See details and eligibility here.
12. What we ask of You
When You use Checkatrade Express, You agree to follow our Fair Use Policy. This means using the platform responsibly - things like being honest in Booking Requests, not harassing Checkatrade Members, and not trying to bypass the platform to avoid fees.
You're also responsible for any separate arrangements You make directly with a Checkatrade Member outside of Express. If something goes wrong with those direct arrangements, that's between You and them.
13. Changes we may make
We may update these terms or make changes to Express from time to time—for example to meet legal requirements or improve the service.
If we make an important change, we'll give You reasonable notice through Your Checkatrade account or by email.
If You don't agree with a change, You can stop using Express at any time before it takes effect.
14. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Any dispute arising from them will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales, with proceedings taking place in London.
