As an OFTECregistered installer and a fully qualified member of The Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps, with nearly 10 years experience in the industry. I can offer my customers advice on the efficient and clean burning of solid fuels and on any maintenance issues concerning your solid fuel appliance. Guild membership requires me to carry an extensive range of modern equipment in my van, to be fully insured, and to abide by a rigid code of ethics and professionalism. Customer satisfaction, safety and cleanliness are my primary objectives, with a Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps certificate being issued at the satisfactory completion of each and every job.

Sweeps

Masonry chimney after manually cleaning with hard bristle and soft brushes to remove heavy build up and soft soot deposits.

Fireplace Installations 

Installation of a 125mm 316 Poujoulat steel flue liner.

Liner down and potting hanging cowl attached  supporting liner from the chimney pot.

Cut and folded galvanised steel closure plate to fit in chamber.

Poujoulat register plates have an additional collar on top, which the liner adapter sits in allowing joint where the flue pipe attaches is hidden

Fireplace Installations & Removals

Soot cap glued on and flue pipe not cleaned out properly and has rusted up, due to soot getting damp and rotting the metal.

Stove showing signs of not working well due to poor condition of rear t-piece. Degraded and cracked fire brick at back needs replacing and glass and inside fire needs a good clean.

All corroded and no longer safe for use with fire.

Replacement flue pipe sourced and fitted with new soot cap.

Rear fire brick replaced, stove and glass cleaned and all working nice and efficiently now.

Stove repairs & restoration

Flue pipe off stove into chimney, not supported and chimney closed off with some radiator brackets and wood board.

Chimney blocked off with wood type boards and radiator brackets. Should have a fully sealed metal register plate with access doors for sweeping if chimney isn't being lined.

Wood stored down side of stove can cause fires and release Carbon monoxide if they catch and start to smoulder.

Faulty installs

New cowl fitted to open fire chimney top to discourage birds from throwing nesting twigs down the chimney.

Chimneys

Air brick fitted externally to covered over fireplace to allow chimney to ventilate and prevent damp issues.

Air Vents

Old mortar removed and repointed. Will be nice and weather tight again now.

Failed pointing on these capping stones, allowing for water to penetrate inside and create damp patches below.

Leak found at bottom of Velux due to damaged membrane. 

New underplayed of membrane fitted and joint to window taped.

Dropped front step and rotted out door sill that needs replacing.

Step has sunk quite heavily at the front.

Old sill removed, brick threshold rebuilt and concrete base layed.

Reclaimed brick step built to match other bricks.

Drip detail added to flagstone step to stop water penetrating underneath and causing the mortar to fail again.

Ben was communicative, reliable and efficient. The chimney was in poor shape with years of build up. Ben cleared it creating no dust whatsoever and inspected the flue with a camera which highlighted further areas for attention and remediation. He was very knowledgable and helpful with a damp issue we have near the chimney stack. We will definitely be booking him again!

Chimney cleared!

Ben is extremely knowledgeable about chimneys and fireplaces.  His work was excellent and he is diligent and respectful.  He kept my house incredibly clean despite the mess that is generated from opening up chimney breasts. I had 2 boarded up fireplaces reopened and an old 70s style fireplace removed. In their place, Ben installed 2 cast iron fireplaces and opened up the 3rd chamber, cleaning it all up and adding a beautiful oak beam mantel piece.  My Victorian house now feels much more like a home.  I would absolutely recommend Ben.
