Product Terms Managed Advertising
Effective 12 May 2026
These Managed Advertising Product Terms apply when you activate or purchase advertising through Checkatrade.
By activating advertising, these terms form part of your Agreement with us and apply in addition to the Master Service Terms and any other applicable Product Terms.
If there is any inconsistency, the order of precedence set out in the Master Service Terms will apply.
What is Managed Advertising
Advertising is a paid feature that allows your business to appear in promoted placements. Advertising may include:
Sponsored Listings: Your business is promoted within search results on the Checkatrade platform. Sponsored Listings appear in response to user queries or matching criteria and are integrated into the list of results, but are clearly identified as promoted placements. Their position may vary and is influenced by factors including your advertising budget and system optimisation.
Checkatrade Spotlight: Your adverts appear in dedicated advertising placements across the Checkatrade platform that are separate from search result rankings. These may include banner-style, display or native advertising formats shown on pages such as search results, category pages or other areas of the platform.
Sponsored Reach: Adverts promoting your business may appear on third-party websites or apps, such as search engines or social media platforms.
Your adverts may appear in one or more of these formats, and these formats may be activated together or independently.
Advertising does not guarantee any particular ranking, number of enquiries or commercial outcome.
Your Advertising Budget
You choose the budget you want to spend on advertising.
We may use that budget across one or more advertising formats and channels.
Where multiple formats are active, we may decide how your advertising budget is allocated between them. Allocation may change dynamically over time based on factors including performance, demand, supply and system optimisation.
We do not guarantee that any particular amount of your budget will be spent on a specific advertising format or how your advertising budget will be distributed between advertising formats or channels.
By default, your advertising may be delivered across all available advertising formats described in these terms.
Where the option is made available by us, you may opt out of specific advertising formats (for example, Sponsored Reach) via your account or another method we specify. Any opt-out applies only to the specified format, does not affect other advertising formats, and will take effect from the start of the next billing month unless we agree otherwise.
Activation
You can request advertising through your account manager, our customer support team or any activation method we make available.
If we accept your request, we will confirm key details such as:
where your adverts may appear (including locations or trade categories);
when advertising will begin; and
your advertising budget.
These details will be confirmed in a Confirmation Email.
Activation may take a reasonable period and will not occur immediately.
How Managed Advertising Works
While advertising is active, and while your budget has not been reached, we may use your advertising budget across one or more of the following advertising formats:
Sponsored Listings;
Checkatrade Spotlight; and
Sponsored Reach.
We may use one or more of these formats at the same time and may change how they are used over the course of your advertising.
We decide how advertising operates across these formats, including:
which advertising formats are used;
how your budget is allocated;
bidding and pricing methods;
the format and placement of adverts; and
when and how often adverts are shown.
The systems and algorithms used to deliver advertising are proprietary. We are not required to explain how they operate.
Fees and Advertising Budget
You agree to pay advertising fees for the advertising services provided.
Different advertising formats may use different pricing models. These may include engagement-based pricing (such as clicks, impressions or conversions) and management or service fees based on advertising spend, particularly for Sponsored Reach.
Where Sponsored Reach is used, we may charge a management fee calculated as a percentage of the Sponsored Reach spend.
We may incur costs with third-party platforms in advance of charging you. You remain responsible for all such costs incurred on your behalf.
The total fees charged will not exceed the budget you set (excluding VAT), unless otherwise agreed.
Pricing depends on market conditions and the advertising channel used at the time an advert is placed.
We may require a deposit before advertising begins and may adjust deposit requirements if your budget increases.
We will invoice you in accordance with your usual billing arrangements. Payment is due in line with the Master Service Terms unless otherwise agreed.
Third Party Platforms
Where adverts appear on third-party platforms, those platforms operate under their own terms, policies and algorithms.
Display, placement and availability of adverts are determined by those platforms.
We do not guarantee:
that adverts will be accepted or displayed;
any particular position or format;
any number of impressions, clicks or enquiries; or
any specific commercial outcome.
We are not responsible for decisions, suspensions, outages or policy changes made by third-party platforms.
Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for ensuring that any information about your business, services or pricing used in advertising is accurate, lawful and up to date.
You must comply with applicable laws, advertising standards and Checkatrade policies.
We may remove, refuse or modify adverts where we reasonably believe they may breach applicable laws, advertising standards or our policies.
To remain eligible for advertising, you must maintain an active Checkatrade plan where required.
If your plan is suspended or terminated, your advertising will automatically stop.
Suspension and Discontinuation
You may stop advertising at any time through your Checkatrade account or by contacting us.
Advertising runs on a monthly basis. If you request to stop advertising, your advertising will end at the end of the current billing month, provided we receive your request at least 7 days before the end of that month. If we receive your request less than 7 days before the end of the month, your advertising may continue into the following billing month and will end at the end of that following month.
You remain responsible for all advertising fees incurred up to the date advertising ends, including any spend committed before your request takes effect.
We may suspend or stop advertising immediately where fees or deposits are overdue, you breach your Agreement, or we reasonably consider it necessary to prevent financial or operational risk.
Advertising will also end if your Agreement with us ends.
