Understanding and Managing Reviews on Checkatrade
Created 11/25

Reviews are one of the most powerful parts of your Checkatrade profile. They help potential customers see the quality of your work, build trust, and make confident hiring decisions.
This guide explains everything you need to know about managing your reviews — how to view, reply to, and dispute them, how our AI summary works, and how to display your review score on your own website using the Review Score Widget.
Here's all you need to know about reviews on Checkatrade
Want to reply to a review?
You can post a Right of Reply to share your side of the story. Keep your tone polite, factual, and professional — this helps future customers see both perspectives.
How to reply:
Open the Checkatrade for Trades App.
Find the review.
Tap the three dots (⋯) and select Reply to this review.
Add your comments and click Submit.
Need to dispute a review?
You can report a review if it breaches our Review Guidelines. We’ll investigate and may ask for more information from you or the reviewer.
We won’t remove a review simply because you disagree with it — reviews are genuine customer opinions.
Report a review if you suspect:
It’s fake or meant for another trade
It contains inappropriate or defamatory content
The customer is unknown to you
To do this, use the Report Review function in the Trade App.
If you believe a review is defamatory, you can also use our Notice and Takedown process.
Wondering where to see your reviews?
You can view, reply to, and monitor all reviews directly in the Trade App.
You’ll also see insights into how your reviews are performing — what customers praise most and areas to improve (for profiles with 50+ reviews in 24 months).
Don’t forget to use the Request Reviews tool to increase your overall review count.
Curious about your AI Summary or Review Score Widget?
Trades with over 50 recent reviews get an AI-generated summary that highlights common customer themes.
You can also embed a Review Score Widget on your website to showcase your latest Checkatrade rating and build trust with new visitors.
Read below for full details on both features.
Replying to Reviews (Right of Reply)
If you receive a negative or mixed review, respond professionally. Your reply shows potential customers that you take feedback seriously and value your reputation.
Tips for writing your reply:
Offer an apology where appropriate and be specific about what you’re apologising for.
Offer a resolution, such as revisiting the job or honouring a guarantee.
Support your comments with evidence, such as positive feedback from other customers.
Stay polite and calm — never argue or share personal details.
How to reply:
Open the Checkatrade for Trades App.
Find the review you want to reply to.
Tap the three dots (⋯) and select Reply to this review.
Add your comments and press Submit.
Your reply will appear publicly beneath the review on your profile.
Disputing a Review
You can report a review if it breaches our rules. Each report is reviewed carefully, and we may contact you or the reviewer for more details.
You can report a review for:
Being fake or for another trade
Containing inappropriate or defamatory content
Coming from a customer you don’t recognise
To report:
Open the Trade App.
Find the review.
Tap Report Review.
Choose your reason and submit.
If a review is defamatory, please use the Notice and Takedown process.
Even if you dispute a review, we encourage you to leave a polite reply to show professionalism.
Viewing and Tracking Reviews
All customer reviews are available in the Trade App under the Reviews section.
Here you can:
Read each review and see its rating.
Reply directly in the app.
Track performance trends over time.
View insights into what customers appreciate and where to improve (for trades with 50+ reviews in 24 months).
Tip: Regularly using the Request Reviews tool helps increase your review count and improve visibility.
Reviews AI Summary
The AI Summary helps homeowners quickly understand the main themes from your recent reviews — what customers love most, and if relevant, any recurring issues.
Who gets a summary?
Trades with 50 or more published reviews in the past 24 months. This ensures accuracy and fairness based on meaningful data.
How it works:
The AI analyses published reviews to find common themes.
Only repeated issues appear — isolated complaints aren’t shown.
The summary updates automatically when new reviews are added or removed.
Can it be edited or removed?
No. Summaries are automatically generated and can’t be manually edited or removed. As you receive new reviews, your summary refreshes to reflect recent feedback.
Why it matters:
Balanced summaries help homeowners make informed decisions and build trust in Checkatrade’s transparency.
Think your summary is inaccurate?
Contact us with your reasoning — we’ll review and correct it if needed.
Summaries evolve automatically as more reviews come in.
