Reviews are one of the most powerful parts of your Checkatrade profile. They help potential customers see the quality of your work, build trust, and make confident hiring decisions.

This guide explains everything you need to know about managing your reviews — how to view, reply to, and dispute them, how our AI summary works, and how to display your review score on your own website using the Review Score Widget.

Here's all you need to know about reviews on Checkatrade

Replying to Reviews (Right of Reply)

You can post a Right of Reply to share your side of the story. Keep your tone polite, factual, and professional — this helps future customers see both perspectives. You can review to any review you receive, it does not have to be a negative review.

Tips for writing your reply:

  • Offer an apology where appropriate and be specific about what you’re apologising for.

  • Offer a resolution, such as revisiting the job or honouring a guarantee.

  • Support your comments with evidence, such as positive feedback from other customers.

  • Stay polite and calm — never argue or share personal details.

  • Try and stay within the 600 character limit for the Right of Reply.

How to reply:

  1. Open the Checkatrade for Trades App.

  2. Find the review you want to reply to.

  3. Tap the three dots (⋯) and select Reply to this review.

  4. Add your comments and press Submit.

Your reply will appear publicly beneath the review on your profile.  Even if you dispute a review, we encourage you to leave a polite reply to show professionalism.

Need to dispute a review?

You can report a review if it breaches our rules. Each report is reviewed carefully, and we may contact you or the reviewer for more details, including proof of work.

You can report a review for:

  • Being fake or for another trade

  • Containing inappropriate content

  • Coming from a customer you don’t recognise

To report:

  1. Open the Trade App.

  2. Find the review.

  3. Tap Report Review.

  4. Choose your reason and submit.

When you do not recognise a customer, there is a 7 day window where we will request proof of work or contact from the consumer.  Once we have received your request, you will receive an email to alert you that we have acknowledged this report. If we do not receive sufficient evidence from the consumer in the 7 day window, the review will be removed.  All correspondence will happen over email, with a typical 24 working hours response time.

If a review is defamatory, please use the Notice and Takedown process.  Once you have submitted the Notice and Takedown form, we aim to respond to your enquiry within 48 working hours.  Please note, we may request evidence from you that will directly disprove the facts of the review if that has not been submitted with the form.  If you are a Limited company, we would require you to provide proof of financial loss.

The form for this process can be found at the bottom of this page under “Submit a Notice and Takedown”:  Notice and takedown

Wondering where to see your reviews?

You can view, reply to, and monitor all reviews directly in the Trade App.  Reviews can take up to 24 hours from the consumer submitting them, to being published on your profile page.  Checkatrade takes the falsification of reviews seriously. As part of our ongoing checks, we regularly review customer feedback to make sure reviews are genuine and accurately reflect customers’ experiences.

During these checks, we may identify unusual patterns that need closer monitoring. Where we find that feedback has been falsified, we may remove it from the platform.

In rare cases, genuine feedback may be unpublished even though our standards have not been breached. If you believe this has happened, please call us on 0333 014 6190 so we can review it.

You’ll also see insights into how your reviews are performing — what customers praise most and areas to improve (for profiles with 50+ reviews in 24 months).

Don’t forget to use the Request Reviews tool to increase your overall review count.

Curious about your AI Summary or Review Score Widget?

Trades with over 50 recent reviews get an AI-generated summary that highlights common customer themes.

You can also embed a Review Score Widget on your website to showcase your latest Checkatrade rating and build trust with new visitors.

Read below for full details on both features.

Reviews AI Summary

The AI Summary helps homeowners quickly understand the main themes from your recent reviews — what customers love most, and if relevant, any recurring issues.

Who gets a summary?

Trades with 50 or more published reviews in the past 24 months. This ensures accuracy and fairness based on meaningful data.

How it works:

  • The AI analyses published reviews to find common themes.

  • Only repeated issues appear — isolated complaints aren’t shown.

  • The summary updates automatically when new reviews are added or removed.

Can it be edited or removed?

No. Summaries are automatically generated and can’t be manually edited or removed. As you receive new reviews, your summary refreshes to reflect recent feedback.

Why it matters:

Balanced summaries help homeowners make informed decisions and build trust in Checkatrade’s transparency.

Think your summary is inaccurate?

Contact us with your reasoning — we’ll review and correct it if needed.

Summaries evolve automatically as more reviews come in.

Review Score Widget

Show off your Checkatrade reputation by adding your Review Score Widget to your website. It’s a live tool that displays your latest score and review count, linking straight to your Checkatrade profile.

Benefits:

The widget helps you build trust by displaying verified Checkatrade reviews, showing your score in real time, and improving your website’s SEO through review schema markup.

How to add it:

  1. Open the Trade App and sign in.

  2. Go to Reviews → Widgets.

  3. Choose your widget style and colour.

  4. Enter your website domain.

  5. Copy the provided code.

  6. Paste it into your website’s HTML (e.g. footer or sidebar).

  7. Save and publish your site.

FAQs:

  • Can I change the colour? Yes, choose from three preset options before copying the code.

  • Does it work on mobile? Yes, it’s optimised for all devices.

  • Does it affect site speed? No — it’s only about 11KB (similar to one small image).

  • Who can use it? Only vetted Checkatrade members.

  • What data is tracked? None from your visitors — only basic API performance calls.

What Checkatrade Support Can Help With for Reviews

We are unable to unpublish a review at your request, or at the consumer's request, due to guidance from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).  The consumer is able to contact us directly to add an addition to their review.

If you have evidence that disproves the factual content of a review, please follow our Notice & Takedown process by completing the form available here:

Notice and takedown

If you are reporting that the reviewer was not a customer, or you believe the review doesn't meet our review standards, you can report this yourself through the app by following the relevant review reporting steps which can be found within this article. Alternatively, you can call us on 0333 014 6190.

If you're unable to add a Right of Reply, please call us on 0333 014 6190, and we'll be happy to add it manually on your behalf.
