This property had six manholes. We found the problem on the the last manhole, just under the footings.
Most of these defects we find are within a metre of your foundations or even beneath your property. Once Rats find the wall cavity they will have access to all areas including your loft.
If you find you have rats anywhere in your home. This could be another place they are getting in. Digging from outside just a few inches and they have a new warm home. We mainly find this problem on newly built homes.
Stainless steel has proved to be the best material (we don’t like plastic). We’ve used many different types of non-return valve over the years and have one in particular that we use day in day out that we know and trust to work exceptionally well. If Rats enter your home though the drains a Rat flap will totally stop them without excavation. BUT sometimes there is not one magic bullet for all rat problems and the only answer is to excavate, obviously this involves some upheaval and disruption but ultimately it is a means to an end.
