I went in to repair a rotten patch in the floor and found the joist was rotten through as on next pic
with futher inspection of the patch repair i found that you could push your finger into the joist so would need replacing. I then relayed this to the customer and had the go ahead to look in the room it was under.
So likely caused by a bad seal somewhere and just covered up when the floor gave in. When they first put the bath in they would of put the wall board sitting on the bath so dropped nearly an inch an was really bouncy.
yea it maybe cheaper but falls to bits when wet
Looks like it's been boarded over the top from when it last dropped
I went to grab the joist and it crumbled away. so i put two treated joists either side of the original. the joists went past the rot and sat on the next supporting joist further down. before putting the board down in the next pic i shoveled all the rubble from the previous trade and disposed of it in the on-site skip
I chose an 18mm hardwood ply as won't crumble when wet and the job didnt require marine board. the original boards were cut down the middle of the joist to make a lip for the next board
With putting the bath back in, just before the silicone seal, i filled the bath up to add the weight to the bath to stop the seal being pulled open and also leveled the bath.
looks like whoever put the bath together forgot to add the sealant before the part was fitted an did so after to make it look like it was right. So leaked on every fitting. It was late in the day at this point but stayed late to remove, clean and refit the fittings ready for the morning
End of the Last day. all joints sealed with a white bathroom seal up to the ceiling
