• change of toilet plunging mechanism resulted in leak through ceiling into living room

  John offered £100 for parts and labour to exchange my entire toilet plunging mechanism, arrival time 8.30-9am.John turned up at 9.45am, he then tried to renegotiate the price and wanted to charge me extra for parts, I eventually paid £110. 20 min after he had left I found a pool of water in my living room with water was dripping down the wall. I phoned John, he initially denied responsibility, suggesting that he could ‘stop by Friday afternoon’. He eventually agreed to return within the hour but I don't think the problem is entirely fixed, wallpaper has been damaged and wall still feels wet.

• Fixed leak on bathroom radiator, included removing radiator, then replacing, and draining system

  John quickly worked out what needed to be done to fix our leaking bathroom radiator and added a valve on the downstairs hall radiator to make draining the system easier in future. John was courteous and tidy. We had a problem with re-pressurising the system owing to previous work by another tradesman, and John generously agreed to lower his usual charges after he had spent time trying to sort this out
