One way to prevent internal flooding during a blockage is the installation of a Burns Chamber which is a metal plate secured within the manhole to stop water rising and overflowing however they are only incorporated as part of a cast iron system. Drain-smart.co.uk

Some engineers decide to take the easy way out and rather than use a pipework reducer they simply cut plastic pipework and push it into the drain run. These connections are not watertight and can cause more problems. Although earthenware is a popular material now, back in the 70's pitch fibre was most commonly used, but after thousands of miles were installed it was found to be defective and in need of replacement. Before we install a structural patch liner we have to prepare the sleeving. Our technicians start by applying a special resin property to the felt sleeve which contains an active catalyst that the liner is impregnated with before installation. Although all of our engineers carry manholes keys, sometimes covers can be rusted/stuck in place and cannot be lifted without causing damage. Structural Patch Lining is a method of drain repair that seals leaking pipework to a watertight condition. The structural patch liners come in pre-cut lengths and are positioned in the drain to cover specific defects

It is important to make sure that all manholes on your property are accessible as in the event of an emergency blockage the engineer would have difficulty without full access.

Although it seems like an excavation would be needed to repair this drain, a less invasive method of rerounding could be used. Even if the pipework is severely deformed reducing the bore to less than 50% of its original size our specialist equipment can be used to return the pipe to a circular shape
