Strip and replace concrete roof tiles with natural slate on mid terrace Victorian house.

    Posted 17 March 2022

In dispute with D. Grieve over new roof done in 2018. After problems arose inc. Leaks and cracked tiles, we paid for detailed report. To summarise (600 character limit): pitch too low for slate on part of roof, no ventilation fitted, battens not BS stamped/incorrectly gauged, wrong nails, leadwork issues, no mech fixings on ridge tiles. Not room to list all the tech faults. All relate to building regs, BS standards and manufact. Guidelines not being followed. Concludes the roof needs to be stripped and replaced. D. Grieve has failed to acknowledge these findings or answer our related questions.

Response from Grieve and Wife Roofing Limited

I have spoken and written to the customer on many occasions and they have refused my help. It now has arisen that they failed to purchase a Building Control Notice for the new roof which they are legally required to do and I put into my quote that this was required. I have offer any remedial work but this was also refused. I will carry out any additional works if required by the Local authority but they still appear to have not purchased the licence nearly 4 years later
