Sentinela

In Angola, where I was born, mangoes and papayas were picked straight from the tree. Later, in Portugal, I grew up around kitchen gardens, seasonal food and local lore.

Plants and food were simply part of everyday life in my earliest childhood.

My name is Nolga and today, I dedicate my work to caring for and improving outdoor spaces as Sentinela, helping gardens recover, thrive, and remain wild and refined throughout the seasons.

To me, gardens are more than an extension of a house.

They are sanctuaries where people can experience the wonders of nature by being part of it, contemplating the beauty of the smallest and quietest things, as well as harvesting its gifts.

How I Work

I work primarily through longer gardening sessions, allowing me to spend the time needed to understand each garden and respond to its particular needs.

My work is time-based, responding to each garden as it is, working with its own challenges, rhythms and possibilities as they present themselves.

I support both ornamental and food-growing gardens, helping them transition through the seasons with discernment and consistency throughout the year.

My focus is garden care, maintenance, planting and small restoration projects.

This does not include hard landscaping or construction, and no chemical or harsh treatments are used.
