Company info

Sussex Sash Window Restoration is the leading sash window and door restoration company in Sussex for listed properties.

Attention: during Covid-19 we are still operating as normal, we do require that certain goverment guidelines are in used when we are at the property that clients and staff use social distancing measures at all times.

When owning a listed property, it always comes with a lot of problems with regular maintenance.

Windows and doors are the one of the first line of defences of the home and should always be looked after. If the windows fail, then the rest of the inside of the property will also start to fail as well with the ingress of water.

Sussex sash Window Restoration prides itself on being able to restore any window to English Heritage standards. With fully trained and skilled joiners being able to re-construct every detail of the window and doors that very day.

The reason that we can make any window that very day to the exact detail is that we manufacture our very own cutters for our spindle moulder machine. In our workshop we carry stocks of high-grade joinery timber handpicked from our suppliers so that the quality is always at the highest standard and constant.

We also have a walk-in policy at the joinery workshop so you can see the restoration process yourself.

When we restore a window, we do not use as much Dry-flex as possible to fill the holes up with, we manufacture new parts for the windows keeping as much of the original sash as possible.

This means that the windows come back like new and keeping with listed buildings regulations of not replacing the sashes.

When the windows are completely replaced then you are swapping the original timber round for an inferior product. Douglass fir is a grade 3 timber which is equivalent to a hardwood window. New windows in softwood are a grade 5 product which means that the life expectancy for this is only 5 yrs.

Therefore, listed properties must be restored because, once the windows are gone then this will be a continues thing that will need to be done until they are replaced in hardwood which also comes with a cost.

If we do manufacture a new window, we hold vast stocks of the original Crown and Cylinder glass so the windows will look the same as the originals to every detail bringing your home back to life.

If you would like to go that little further, we have an extensive range of original window furniture in sets to really give it that authentic look.

Sash Window draught-proofing

Windows are fitted with a draught excluder system giving you a sealed unit around the windows making sure that there are no unsightly gaps and draughts so that there is not a cold area around the windows. The draught excluder system will be fitted on the top rail of the top sash window, meeting rail of the bottom sash window, parting beads and the staff beads. These will be fitted with the best quality waxed sash cord, New Brighton fasteners, 6” or 4” D handles and sash window lifts in Chrome or polished Brass or polished Chrome. All the furniture is all supplied by Carslisle Brass and is solid brass. The chrome is made from brass basemetal with a chrome plating so that no rust occurs.

Casement window and doors draught-proofing

This is a revolutionary system from Europe that we believe many companies don’t have access to. This is where we use a bubble seal on the inside of the door frame where the door shuts against.

This is the same technique that you would use on modern day doors to reach the U-value that new installations require. This method compresses a bubble seal on the outside of the door and the inside of the frame in the corner so there is no unsightly draught pile that you would use on windows.

We have used different techniques and we have found that when the door expands in the change of weather this could seal the door shut.
