Repointing an entire cottage in traditional lime mortar.

    Posted 19 May 2025

The whole process from the quote to job completion was faultless. Constantly in communication with us, giving details of completed work and the next steps. The property now looks new, even though it was converted from a barn in the early 1800’s. Would highly recommended Tollstone for any masonry work.

Brilliant job... 100% recommend Alastair. Breadth of knowledge and skills, not just stonemasonry. This is the third job he's completed for me.

Build a new stone wall for my garden

    Posted 05 May 2025

Alastair made a beautiful stone wall, with some brick quoins to match an existing wall. He and his team did this quickly and without fuss. The cost was very reasonable.

Took on an emergency repair of stone work on a southwest facing part of the building in the middle of winter. Excellent response and a quality repair rebuild of the damaged area of stone work. Very pleased with the result.

replacing header to. 17thc sash window in Ross on Wye - Quaker meeting hall

    Posted 01 May 2025

Confident of theproblem to offer two maximum costings, even though all that was evident was a crack in the internal plaster. Investigative procedure revealed that it was a wooden beam, and that improper use non-lime mortar had caused the problem - the soldier course had collapsed. SUbsequent water ingress had put the large sash window in jeopardy. Alastair booked us in, turned up and completed task, leaving instructions for skimming the internal plaster when it had dried - for our own builder to complete. All satisfactory and not the dreaded listed building reporting nightmare we expected.
