They told me they would go to the property to assess the problem, but when they got there the water was running normally and they said his diagnosis picked up faults with air pressure switch and NTC sensors in the boiler that needed replacing. The problem was they didn't tell me there was a call out charge. They said we would only charged if we decided to have the work carried which was £85 per hr plus VAT. They then invoiced me £106.80 for 10 mins assessment. Really annoyed! The gas engineer I normally use said it wasn't worth changing and installed a new boiler for me.
Response from WPJ Heating
Whenever we receive and enquiry to carry out repair works potential clients are advised that the minimum call out rate is £85 excluding Vat which will also cover the first hour if the repair takes this long. The resident has made reference that the engineer was on site for 10 minutes, this would not be practical as the engineer would take more than this in setting up on site and removing the case to carry out the diagnosis. The parts we diagnosed as being required would have cost the client approx. £200 in total to replace. Instead the normal gas man she uses has charged her for a new boiler which is far in excess of the costs we suggested to repair. We would also question why we were asked to attend if the resident already had a gas man she uses?
