    Security Door Locks

Paid Upfront, No Lock Replacement and No Contact

I contacted this company regarding a jammed door lock in Brampton, Cambridgeshire and paid a £79 call-out fee. After attending, I was quoted around £400 to replace the lock and was asked to pay upfront, with the replacement expected within a few days. It has now been over a week and I have not heard anything from the company despite the payment being made. To make matters worse, no contact details were left, making it difficult to obtain an update or resolve the issue. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and service provided. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend

Advertises no call out - this is a lie

This locksmith lies online & has inflated prices. Advertises arrival in 15 minutes and no callout fee. The work was completed and that’s all well and good, however immediately when the locksmith arrived (45 mins) he said it’s £50 to “come and assess”. That is a callout charge. Be aware it costs £230 just to open the door. The mechanism had broken and I needed new handles fitting and there was no choice so nothing matches and I will have to change them again in the near future. My total cost was £395 and the locksmith has used many of the old parts including locking strip and my existing lock.

    Lock Repair

    Repaired from door lock

Came out quickly and repaired the lock. Quoted callout charge of £70 which was fine. They repaired the lock and the total cost was £250. There was no replacement part that I saw and main lock is still present. I was invoiced for a replacement part. They charged me a flat £135 for that part. Any Google for that part reveals £35 maximum cost price. I enquired and they never responded. I am convinced they came out quoted and me what they liked at the end of the job. Sadly I think they are dishonest I wouldn't trust them with my grandmother's lock that's for sure. Chap was nice then ripped me.

    Emergency Locksmith Service

    Front Door Lock Jamming

Would not recommend. Called out to mend our front door lock which was sticking. Were advised that the lock was broken and needed replacing. Tried to charge £440 for the replacement, which was almost 3 times the initial quote. Ended up paying £190 for 2 call outs, the second of which was so they could retrieve their own temporary lock and replace it with our original faulty one. Have since taken the lock apart ourselves, applied WD40, and it is working perfectly.

    Response from Rapid Locksmiths

We regret that the customer feels they have been unfairly treated. Our engineer attended the property to find that the door wasn’t operating as it should. The engineer removed the parts which were seized and needed to be changed, The customer was informed of the work needed and given a quote of £446 inc VAT this includes the initial call out, parts and a return visit. The customer agreed to have the work carried out and a temporary mechanism was installed and parts were placed on order, a 50% deposit was taken. We were contacted by the customer after the first visit to say that she had spoke to her husband and he would rather get a new door. The customer was told that the parts had been ordered and were non refundable as is clearly stated on our invoices. As a gesture of good will we have only charged for the first call out and the return visit to install the old faulty mechanism and have refunded the difference. Customer to now repair or replace to own arrangement As the mechanism is faulty and will fail again. We always strive to achieve the best result for our customers for the view for the long term.
