Advantages and disadvantages of wallpaper

When weighing up whether to decorate with wallpaper or not, it’s helpful to consider both its pros and cons.

The advantages of wallpaper include:

• Appearance: Wallpaper can be very visually appealing
• Maintenance costs: While wallpaper may be more expensive than paint, it's a lot less difficult and expensive to maintain
• Versatile: Wallpaper comes in a large number of styles, colours, designs and textures, allowing you to customise it to fit your interior design scheme
• Covers issues with the wall: Ideal for walls in less-than-perfect condition
• Lifespan: While paint needs to be refreshed every few years, wallpaper can last up to 15 years

The disadvantages of wallpaper include:

• Price: Wallpaper can be more expensive than paint
• Repairs and replacement: If your wallpaper becomes damaged and needs to be repaired or replaced, it may be difficult to find the same pattern again
• Installation: If you don't have experience hanging wallpaper, it can be a tricky, complicated job
• Removal: Wallpaper removal can be hard work, especially in larger rooms
• Humidity: Wallpaper won’t last very long if installed in a humid area of your home
• Fumes: Some wallpapers give out toxic fumes so look for eco friendly alternatives

Wallpaper removal services

If your wallpaper is outdated or damaged, it can be removed quickly, and your walls can then be prepared for redecorating by a wallpapering service in your area.
