Is K Rend better than sand and cement?

While traditional sand and cement render is technically cheaper, K Rend is often the preferred choice. That’s because K Rend offers:

• Better breathability
• Colour-through pigmentation (meaning no painting needed)
• Has better resistance to cracking

Meanwhile, standard sand and cement render usually need painting and more ongoing maintenance. So, the costs can stack up over time.

What are the disadvantages of K Rend?

While K Rend has many benefits, there are a few cons to point out:

• It can cost more per m² compared to standard render
• Dodgy installation can lead to cracking or uneven curing
• Surfaces may need additional preparation, such as mesh, depending on the wall type

Choosing an installer with plenty of experience applying K Rend will make sure you get a quality, durable job.

Can you K Rend over existing render?

Yes, the bonus of K Rend is that it can be applied over existing render. But only if the surface is stable, well-bonded and not failing. Installers may need to:

• Remove loose areas
• Apply a base coat
• Add reinforcement mesh

An experienced installer will assess whether the existing surface is suitable on their site visit.

How long does K Rend last?

When applied professionally, K Rend typically lasts 20–30 years. Its silicone technology helps it resist weathering, cracking, and algae build-up, making it one of the most durable render options.
