• Installing polycarbonate sheets with correct fixings and sealing
• Flashing, ventilation, weather-proofing and finishing touches are added

Can I install a polycarbonate roof myself or should I hire a specialist?

While DIY may seem possible, polycarbonate roofing involves:

• Working at height
• Ensuring correct seals and fixings are in place for weather-proofing

Mistakes can lead to leaks or structural problems. For a top-quality finish, hire a checked roofer in your area.

How long will a polycarbonate roof last and what maintenance is required?

Multi-wall or good quality sheets may last 10-15 years or more. Maintenance is key to the longevity of your roof. To keep it in tip-top condition, make sure to:

• Clean carbonate sheets gently (to avoid scratches)
• Check seals and fixings from time to time
• Clear away any debris that might trap and pool water

What are the advantages and disadvantages of polycarbonate roofing?

Advantages:

• Lightweight and easier to install than glass or tiles
• Cheaper than glass alternatives
• Good light transmission
• Durable against breakage

Disadvantages:

• Insulation isn’t as effective as a glass or tiled roof – this means the space may be cooler in winter and warmer in summer
