Slate Roof Installation in Exeter (44)

Slate roofs are both durable and designed to last. When properly maintained, slate roofs can last upwards of 100 years, making them a great investment.

Is it worth repairing a slate roof?

If your slate roof becomes damaged or worn it’s tempting to get a quick repair, however, this isn’t always the best choice.

If your roof is quite old or very damaged, a replacement is the better choice. Otherwise issues will keep cropping up and you’ll need to pay for repairs again and again.

How to know if a slate roof needs repairing

There are a few key signs to look out for that mean your slate roof needs to be repaired. These include:

• Damaged tiles

• Missing tiles

• Leaks

• Sagging

• Defective pointing

Roofers trained in laying slate tiles work at a steady rate to ensure the job is done to the highest standard. Rushing will only mean the roof is less durable and long lasting.

As a rough guide, a roofer will lay an average of 30 tiles an hour. Depending on how many hours a day they work, this means laying a roof can take days.

Laying a slate roof is a difficult task that can take days but once completed, your slate roof could last up to 100 years.

The amount you pay for your slate roof depends on a few key factors. These include:

• Size of roof - The larger your roof, the more tiles and labour time needed. This will increase your slate roof cost.

• Type of slate tiles - Different types of slate tiles can be more or less expensive.

• Number of roofers - The more roofers you hire, the higher the labour cost will be.

• Type of roof - The type of roof you choose will affect the price you pay for slate roofing.

• Access - Roofs that are difficult to access will mean higher labour prices.
