That means you can carry out certain works without needing to apply for planning permission – as long as you use tiles and materials that have a similar appearance to the existing roof. As per Part 1, Class C of the General Permitted Development Order (GPDO).

That said, it’s also worth mentioning that these rights can be restricted or removed by your local planning authority – for example, in conservation areas or through a condition on a previous planning permission.
